Help, Serious D/L problems?

I was having problems searching for music/movies, so I downloaded Limewire 4.10.9. Now my searches are fine, but my download speeds are ridiculously slow!

They would peak at around 100 KB/s before, now the highest I've seen it is 3 KB/s.

please help

stratmaster48 March 29th, 2006 03:31 PM

i just tested my speed, and it says that my connection speed is 2432 Kbps

Have a look through these threads

Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue earth)?

Reply by PM will work. You'll see an error page but the message still goes through.
Else, start a new thread titled "your original thread - merge".
A moderator will merge threads when they get the chance.

hey, I had the older version, and I saw a firewall in front of the earth. I dont have a firewall on, so I downloaded the newer version and all of my speeds were significantly lower.

do you still have the firewall with the new version? Sometimes the firewall icon shows if there's an internal firewall within a modem/router. Not just cos of a software firewall.

Download a magnet link (there's a link to the site in one of the threads I posted). If you get good speeds then your slow download speed on LW might be because of your sources. If your speeds are still crappy downloading the m/link, might be an ISP issue.

*If you're going to reply by PM, you need to read your PMs to see my reply:) Else, just keep posting new threads here but make sure the title is the same as your original & write "merge". Then a moderator knows what goes where!

stratmaster48 March 29th, 2006 07:05 PM

no the firewall is gone with the new software.

where is the link?

Lord of the Rings March 29th, 2006 07:08 PM

Magnets

Magnet links can be found here http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml
Choose a downld & tell us what happens.

There seems to be a problem with some people being able to read PMs. Maybe they're not going through?

Here is stratmaster48's reply
I tried to d/l 2 of the magnets, and they both said that they need more source

LOTR... does this mean an ISP problem?

:)

Can't Downld!

That doesn't sound good at all. Who is your internet service provider?

Do this test: Bug Report instructions & sample image Is the result True/False?

Here's another couple of tests:

1. Try downlding a skin from here http://www.limewire.com/english/content/skins.shtml but choose the link to "Download into LimeWire" & not the http browser link!

2. Try to downld from the "LimeWire magnet link" from here http://www.mager.org/LimeWire/
BTW that is a mac version so you won't be able to use it. It's simply to test whether you can downld via magnet links.

" The bug report said true. the skins worked, but the other magnet link didnt".

It seems like you're being filtered by your ISP. :(

You can download but only slowly right? And no magnet links work? Are you using any other p2p sharing program?

Yes, I can d/l but it is incredibly slow. No not using any other p2p.

p.s. the slow d/l speed didn't start until I downloaded the new version..

Can you tell us who your isp is?

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) But make a note of all your important settings 1st. eg: saving/downld location, speed settings, shared folders, etc. After you delete your LW prefs folder, you'll need to reset all your options. Then see how LW goes.

My ISP is Charter Communications.

I'll try deleting my preferences folder.

I'm trying to delete my preferences, but I cant find them on my search engine...I've already "shown all hidden folders." which file do I look for? (be specific)

Lord of the Rings March 30th, 2006 09:40 AM

Finding LW preferences folder

That's why I suggested both options of step 2 & 3. If you had used an earlier version of LW then your prefs folder will be called .limewire & found Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire

Or Windows 98 / ME: Your .limewire folder is in "C:\My Documents"

If LW 4.10 is your 1st version then the prefs folder will be called limewire without the dot in front of it & will be found here C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusername*\Application Data\limewire

Remembering the Application Data folder is "Hidden"!

BTW there's sample images for both. Limewire at bottom post & .limewire the previous post.

*** BTW if you're using windows XP sp2 then see these links MS & 3rd party patches *** ;)

I did that and the speeds didnt increase. I'm getting up to 10 hosts, but no more than 4 Kbps any suggestions?

mellingja March 31st, 2006 03:29 PM

I am having the same sort of problem, except for mine, it connects, but then says 'Queued' in the 'Status' column. Any ideas?

PS. I am running Limewire 4.10.9 on Windows XP Home, through a 3com OfficeConnect Wireless Router. I have turned off its built in firewall with no luck.

birdy March 31st, 2006 04:27 PM

i still need help!:(

birdy March 31st, 2006 04:53 PM

Did you speak to your ISP & find out whether they're blocking p2p somehow?

Stabbin' in the dark here, maybe you could try changing ports. LOTR's post #6 here has some alternative ports
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...274#post189274

I'm not sure that this will have any effect. Maybe someone else here could help you more:)

mellingja March 31st, 2006 05:18 PM

Birdy, thanks VERY MUCH for that advice - Limewire works perfectly now! Thankyou very much :)
