Need More Sources

For the last week, no matter what song I try to download, I get the "need more sources" message! I'm about to pull my hair out...can someone help me? Thanks!

dizzyblonde April 1st, 2006 10:23 AM

That's the same thing I came here to find out about. It'll list as having 40 sources, then says need more sources.

no...no wall, I've used Limewire for months with no problem. I haven't changed anything.

Grandpa April 1st, 2006 10:42 AM

Who is your ISP, are you using a router if so what make and model

morninglory April 1st, 2006 10:45 AM

my ISP is SBC Global...no router

Grandpa April 1st, 2006 11:17 AM

The good news is I cant find anything about your ISP blocking or shaping. The bad news is that when this happens suddenly Eg: you were able to connect and download before it usually means your ISP has started blocking or shaping. But neither of you have really said if this is the case or not.

I guess I am going to need a little more Info.

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (Eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your ISP provider? ( AOL/MSN/Comcast/Tiscal)
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
These details are vital if you want us to find out what your connection problem is.

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...757#post103757 Is the result True/False

13. Do a speed test post the results here.

2. I do have a firewall, but I don't know which one
3. Plenty
4. also plenty
5. DSL
6. no router, speedstream 5100
7. home
8. LW 4.9.30, JV 1.5.0_03
9. SBC Global
10. No...no sharing
11. My test worked!!

Thanks for you're help

Grandpa April 1st, 2006 11:45 AM

I need you to do test #12 it tells me if a firewall is interfering click on the attachment in post #401 and follow the instructions.

morninglory April 1st, 2006 11:56 AM

the answer is false

Grandpa April 1st, 2006 12:12 PM

Ok there is nothing blocking you. So the odds are your isp has started blocking or shaping. The link below may be of some help the first thing I would try is different ports. There is a chance I am wrong you might want to try the .limewire fix in the second link first and maybe uninstalling and re installing Java. But I doubt it will do any good.

So, what would you do if you do have that? I don't have to disable my firewalls do I?

Grandpa April 1st, 2006 02:00 PM

No, But you have to configure your firewall so limewire has permission to access the Internet. The link below may help.

dizzyblonde April 1st, 2006 05:30 PM

I've done the things said here. I had the brick over the globe, but after shutting down Zonealarm, it's gone. I enabled Windows firewall and configured it as it says on the limewire page.

1. OS version? (Eg: Windows 98) Windows XP

2. What firewalls you have? Zonealarm (now disabled) and Windows firewall (now enabled)

3. How much ram? 382mb

4. Hard Disk space available? 8+gigs

5. Connection type? DSL

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Siemens Speedstream 4200

7. Where are you trying to connect from? Home

8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? 4.10.9 & 1.5.0_06

9. Who is your ISP provider? Altell

10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No

11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ 'Your test worked!'

* Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access Yes

12. Do This test, Is the result True/False? True

13. Do a speed test post the results here. 672 d/l 311 u/l

Any advice would be greatly appriecaited! I've unistalled it, deleted everything I could find to do with Limewire (even in hidden folders), and reinstalled it twice. This is about to drive me to drinking!! :(

morninglory

I was looking over your post and I noticed I made a mistake your answer to #12 was False, This means you are being blocked. I checked on your SpeedStream modem it has a Firewall in it. The link below has instructions for setting up the firewall.

I think your reply was for morninglory..or else I'm just confused again! Anyhow, I read more at the forum and discovered FrostWire. I d/l it, and it seems to be working for now.

But thanks for taking the time to look into it and answer :D
