downloads too slow
 

hi,
im with iinet and they have speeds upto 24,000. my limewire downloads have not been too fast, but too bad but all of a sudden they have dropped to okb or 1kb. i went on my iinet to set my speed thingy, cause you can set it how fast you want to. since ive done that my downloads r slower. dont know if thats anything to do with it.

Hi, go to limewire-------tools--------options---------downloads

Set your bandwidth % and your downloads should increase/decrease accordingly. I also suggest running a scan on your machine, I highly recommend:

This will rid your pc of crap and hopefully speed it up a tad.

What's your connection quality (poor, good, excellent etc)? Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue earth)? Download a file from here & see what speeds you get

I don't use iinet but there might be some people around who do. It sounds a bit like an ISP prob but AFAIK no Oz providers are shaping bandwidth yet:D

Check your iinet account bandwidth "Volume" usage. ADSL2 has limitions on maximum downld & upload per month. That's why I still use ADSL1 otherwise I'd use up my allotment total in less than a week. After that I'd be at not much better than dial up speed so thus I didn't make the change to ADSL2. I don't believe iinet are shaping bandwidth for p2p but will shape bandwidth if you've used up your month's quota of total up & downloads. Which plan are you on? 8 GB/16 GB/20 GB or other? I'm on Bliink 256 plus as even if I go over my limit, I've never been shaped. I generally double my limit/mth. :D However with adsl2 they will uphold the limits.

I should have thought of checking my volume usage, yes you were right ive exceeded my usage. just wondering though, when ive still got all my usage i still dont get super fast speeds downloading. still slow considering the speed thru iinet is upto 24,000.

Speed depends on your sources. So, the name of the game is to try to find many sources for your downlds. You can only download as fast as a source will let you. You have dial up users, you have those that have high speed but may only be offering small upload speed or else, they have too many upload slots & thus the speed is shared & becomes minimal.

Oh BTW crap cleaner offered above, is a good utility but is packaged with a 3rd party toolbar accessory. So be aware of that.

I forgot to mention that im on 20gb with iinet.

I'm on a 256 kbps plan & I downld between 16-18 GB/month. So on your speed which is 8+ times faster, you'll reach that amount in no time with p2p. So keep an eye out on your volume usage.

Unfortunately we don't have large or unlimited downld plans like they do overseas. It's all a part of marketing I believe. Perhaps eventually they will increase these amounts.
