never gets past "Connecting..."

Occasionally, when I'm downloading MP3's, the status never gets past "Connecting..." Does anyone know what's causing this & how to fix it? I have Windows, my ISP is Comcast & cable, and it's the basic Limewire. Thanks!

Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? If yes, then you have a firewall issue. See Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

Sometimes ... if you're using the Resume/Find Sources function on all your incompletes at one time this can affect LW's connection quality. Therefore it's wisest to only use this function sparingly. Use it on just a few files at a time.

not exactly...

although i do have a firewall, the brick wall icon isn't there & i'm not using the find/resume option.

this doesn't happen on every file, this is the second time this has happened.

i miss winmx, even though it sucked! i knew how to use that, lol.

Are you on a fixed plan with Comcast for downlds or do you have an unlimited downlds plan? There's a chance you might have passed your monthly limit & it's affecting your downlds.

Other than that, perhaps closing LW & reopening might do the trick. It might be related to connecting thru an unreliable ultrapeer. ;)

no, there's nothing set with comcast. files of the same type (mp3, etc.) still download, but this title doesn't. i'm trying not to get too specific; it's just very difficult to explain my problem w/o doing so!

Beware there are fake files out there. These tend to be obvious by the large no. of results. They will be over 100, & perhaps another with 99 results & so on. I haven't heard of these affecting people's connections though. LW.org is aware of this new type of spam of fake files that's very recently started showing up. I have no idea what their approach to get around it will be.

Might I suggest you try search results that are 10 or less. Or try varying your search to find other results of the same title so you might get more reliable results.

question

okay, let me state this as best i can.

assume i search for Song A. i try, at different times, all of the results that come up. none get farther than "connecting..." although some occasionally say "need more sources."

i give up on Song A. i then search for Song B, which i can successfully download. same for Songs C,D, and so on.

Now, my question is, what is going on with Song A?

Either a fake or you simply are unable to connect to them. Best to aim for those with 4 stars which represent chances of connection. But still no guarantees.
