Default Tiscali blocking Limewire

Hi All

This is my first post to this forum as up until now Limewire has been working perfectly and is really easy to use and set up.

Unfortunately after a spell of not using it for a while it is now totally and utterly usless.....

Irrespective of the no. of hosts to download from where I would get anything up to 110kb download speed it is now down to 1-5KB and continually stops for very long pauses before re continuing at an even slower pace.

After reading lots of info/help on this forum (nothing I tried made any difference) I came acrross the isp's that limit p2p downloads and to my shock saw Tiscali mentioned. As I use them (UK) and could find no other reason I posted on the Tiscali UK Forum site and apparently they have been blocking/limiting ALL p2p downloads from 8am to 1pm,irrespective of your bandwidth use (I have the problem with Limewire 24hrs) Tiscali is said to be making an official announcment on the matter in the next week.

If there is anyone using Limewire OK with UKonline ? If yes I would be gratefull if you would say if they are ok or not as Tiscali can go to HELL.

I did try downloads speeds from 'Magnet mix' as suggeseted here many times and the most I could get was 15kb,,mainly though it was about 5kb and continually stopping.

My broadband speed is 1mb on an ADSL modem

Kind regards
Andy

Guys

The same problem you are having with Tiscali I am having with Virgin, the only UK ISPs that I know of that do not block P2P traffic are NTL and Bulldog.

Hi

A couple of links on Tiscali forum just to confirm what we know, it appears p2p only works (if ever) in the VERY early hours of the morning.

Also I realise this is now over 12 months old but makes interesting reading.Apparently Tiscali were actually taken to court in Belgium to Force them into blocking p2p software ! Sorry if this is something everbody already knows ;-)

I reckon the complete DEATH of all p2p software is very shortly on the 'cards' in the next 2 years...

The 'www' is soon to become a completely unusable comercially enviroment that we can only view what THEY want us to see...somewhat different to what it was invented for.

Oh this world is going to be a lovely place to live in within then next 50 years !!

Andy ;-)

Hi All

If you can bothered have a read of all this....

http://www.tiscali.co.uk/forums/show...2&page=1&pp=15

Tiscali staff have specifically asked people to ask questions re. p2p, when asked unsurprisingly they ignore them all !

They still refuse point blank to confirm on EXACT times that they ARE blocking p2p, except to say that it will be slow during peak times or during any other busy times !! In other words when ever they feel like it

What the hell is the point of these ISP's doing mega broadband speeds and so called unlimited service if you can't download anything ?Does anyone really need 8mb to download an email?

If you are with Tiscali UK ring up and threaten to leave, my 1MB service has now been reduced to £9.99 a month, still not a lot of use if you can only use the Internet a 2am !!!!

Boy are we all getting taken 'for a ride' or what

Regards
Andy

p.s.Apparently Tiscali are soon publishing new terms and conditions of use, this will be a good laugh !

HI

I have these message, i have been with Tiscali for over the past year with 2mb BB, no problems with LW, however since i have informed them i would like a free upgrade to 8mb, i have had nothing but issues with LW, no connection at all.

Oh sorry it did connect one eve quite late at full speed, then is disconnected the following day, I have never since ( 2 weeks ) been able to reconnect.

I may just give up with LW, It was good whilst the going was good !!!!

I was with Tiscali Broadband for six months or so up until October last year, they warned me about "Heavy usage", even though I was only using Limewire once a week or so and for only one or two songs, anyway, they informed me after three email "Warnings" that I would go on the heavy usage list which means basically I would be sharing bandwidth with all P2P users between 5.00pm and 11.00 pm everyday!! Now I also use Camfrog chat, which is a video chatsite, this became unusable between 5-11pm because of being on a limited bandwidth I was "Lagging" way behind everyone else in the chatrooms, even dial-up users of Camfrog were going faster than me!! Anyway Tiscali offered me my Mac code so I went and am now with BT. They emailed me last week telling me that if I continue being a heavy user with them I may have to go on a higher tariff !! My point is I am hardly using Limewire! I no longer go on Camfrog, so, basically the P2P community are being targeted by all isp's how much longer can file sharing survive??

Default Tiscali

Yeah Ive been having problems with tiscali recently and have emailed tiscali technical support about blocking/ limiting p2pdownloads - they emailed me back today categorically denying tiscali blocks/limits p2p downloads !! Funny how my limewire only works early mornings then !!!! Something very fishy seems to be going on !!!!!!!!!
