fast downloads for a coupe minutes the nothing...

I have been having a problem with my limewire. I'll have fast downloads for a couple minutes, then, even though my download may say "downloading from 7 hosts", all my download speeds will drop to 0kps. When I restart limewire, it will work again for a while then same thing happens. Any suggestions? It didnt used to do this.

Thanks

Is your connection ok? Try downloading a file from here & see what speed you get
http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue earth)?
Who is your ISP (internet service provider)?

i have no firewall icon, but i used to. It went away one day. Yes I can down load the magnetmix link, and when i did, it fired up a bunch of my other downloads, and my limewire froze up completely for a few minutes. My isp is through Mediacom cable in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Is trying to download a magnetmix file everytime it does this a fix, or just a test. I have considered upgrading to PRO but a lot of the posts I see say that does not fix the problems they have. Also at one point I saw a post about adding a gnutella setting into my LAN settings, but now I am having trouble finding it again. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Because of all that extra Google stuff, I really dont want to have to go back to Bearshare, and Kazaa is a spyware/addware nightmare these days! I was very happy with limewire until this started happening all of a sudden. HELP!!!

Thanks

Downloading a file from magnetmix is just a bit of a test, to see whether you have the same speed dropoffs as usual. Those files should download quite quickly. If the same thing happens, it can point to an ISP problem. What speeds did you get from magnetmix?

If your computer froze when your downloads restarted, perhaps you're trying to download too many files at once!

Mediacom were giving people trouble because of traffic shaping, I can only find articles from last year... they may or may not still be doing this? That would explain your speed drops but I can't be sure. Have you called them & asked if they're shaping bandwidth for p2p apps? Did you have the same thing happen when using Bearshare & Kazaa? Why not just fire up Bearshare & see if you still have the problem... that'll be a good test! Don't upgrade to Pro until this issue is resolved;)
