Disk Problem??

Everytime I try to download, I keep getting a "disk Problem" message on the download screen where it shows you the number of hosts/download complete. Can anyone help me with this? Why is it doing this, and how can I stop it?

okay . when it says "disk problem" it has to do with your pc and not LW. it says this when there is no space to save your file. so try cleaning up ur hard disk and re d/l the file.

Diask Problem

I've been having the same problem myself. Keep getting 'disk problem' when downloading songs. My hard drive is no where near to being full and i've emptied the destinatoin folder where my music downloads to.
I'm still getting 'disk problem'.

Anyone any ideas?

10moorgate June 6th, 2006 08:10 AM

sorry should have said 'disk problem'

Have you tried defragmenting your harddisk. That sometimes is the problem. If that's not it, then maybe trying to delete the preferencefolder for Limewire.

If none of the above, then I have no idea :o

I have had this happen many times but only with my jump drive - with that i ended up reformatting it and it has been fine ever since... it would only be half full and would say disk error no remaining file space or some such crap

Hello. I am getting this error message as well. First Time in 2 years! I recently got a new hard drive just to hold all my music, photos and movies til they get burned. It's something like 400 gigs and I have used approximately 50. I changed the location of save to the new drive. Most of the limewire downloads come through - I've successfully downloaded movies, songs and short videos on to the new drive, but a sprinkling of downloads don't complete, showing "disk problem" as the error message. A preview shows the video or plays the song without any problems, yet the dl doesn't show in my completed folder. One post above says to reformat the hard drive - well, because of what I won't even begin to entertain THAT thought. The default location of course is in Drive C, which can't hold much more. I don't want to do a major overhaul of my computer (time constraints; whole family sharing computer). The new drive is good - no problems with any other downloads. Any other suggestions out there???

Without chnging the subject here can you purchase a hard drive in any Best Buy, Office Max, or Circuit City store? I've been browsing them lately and i'm confused about what it's purpose is.

Clean Up or Defragment?

Some of you are suggesting that I should "clean up" or "defragment" the hard disk. My download folder is on drive (C:). So please anyone tell me how to do that exactly? Kindly enlighten as you would an 11-year-old. I'm actually 18, but then again that's only a number. I'm really just a girl who eats, sleeps, breathes music & things like this just sends her spiraling into clinical depression. So please help me, tech-gods. Thank you, goodnight.

Start menu -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Computer Management. Select Disk Defragmenter. :)

* Disk error issue is actually often also caused by your main drive C partition being too full. So would be best to change your download location to a different partition/drive.

Clean Up?

"Clean up"? Does that mean I only have to delete a few files from the drive? Or clear out the entire drive? What? Somebody please say something. This feels like Peenemünde all over again. Thank you, goodnight.

Clean Up?

Thanksalot for coming to my rescue. However, my download folder is on drive (C:) & you're talking about some trash can... Does my trash really count towards my disk space use on drive (C:)? I usually empty my recycle bin & I'm still getting the same "disk problem" message. This is too much already! Please help some more. Thank you, goodnight.

trash is a relative term I guess...let's just refer to it as files that are no longer needed on your machine...most of us have some, I've even got a few myself, but I'm not pressed for disk space at the moment...what LOTR was indicating is that perhaps your drive is not only full of unnecessary files (which you would let click on and choose delete, then empty your trash can...and yes, until you empty the trash can, they are still considered to be available and are taking up space) but also has become fragmented which means there are available clusters of disc space all over the place as opposed to being in a nice neat block of open space...

soooo...to reiterate what LOTR advised, clean your HDD of unneeded files, then defragment using the tool he gave the location to...

Sounds like your C partition is nearing full or/& highly fragmented. Do you have another available partition or drive you can use? You can change download location in your LW options. Some presently downloading files may still download to C after changing location but you can right-click them in download window & choose save to # partition.
