Default Please Help Me: it keeps downloading zip files that i have to keep deleting

alright heres the problem...the other night...my freind instant messages me, says hes downloading the s*ms on LW and its a zip file....so he told me if i wanna download a game make sure its a zip file....i myself have never dealt with zip files or anything. so i go to download a hunting game that was a ZIP file and it was 177.7 kb big....i dont know what the heck happened but it wouldnt work and a error message came up saying it was going to terminate the software...so i hit ok....and went to bed.....the next morning i woke up and it said i had 3,249 files when i really only have 970 so i found them and deleted them they were stored under complete files...an hour later the same thing happend..it keeps downloading zip files that i have to keep deleting. another thing is that if i have limewire on but i dont have the LW browser up but LW is running the window will pop up....so i X that out and 10 minutes later it pops up again

so the real ? is how do i stop my window from popping up and how do i stop LW from downloading all those zip files that i have to keep deleting..its irratating me horribly.....thanks for anyhelp or reply's and sorry for the hour long story i just wanted to tell everyone what happened in the first place you people who reply didnt have to ask.....and that way they could probably give a better answer.....thanks again

alex

You d/led a virus. You can go to this thread and find some advice: WARNING: Viruses on network you should be aware of!

Also in that thread is a link to Norbies World, you'll need to register and follow the directions. He offers free computer advice and can help you get rid of it.

Good luck.

Just for verification the virus is totally gone go to Norbies site. NorbiesWorld (click on link) Some of these viruses will leave a file in the startup items which needs to be removed.

I'm not sure how it works, but I suspect you've initially downlded a virus ... & that either multiplies or sends out messages for others to downld without your knowledge.

hey. well i tried the mcafee free scan and it found the virus but then i didnt know how to delete it or whatever. yesterday my laptop had Trend Micro pc-cillin anti virus. so i scanned with that after using mcafee's free scan and it could not find it. so i downloaded a 90 day trial of norton's antivirus. it found the virus, quaruntined it and everythings running great now.

except for now when i go to open limewire to download more music this morning it says that my firewall wont allow it to access the internet and to grant it access and it will work...but i dont get any verification messages to grant it access or not.. and i have my windows firewall shut off completely and it's been like this sence i got my computer. i checked the anti-virus and i have limited coverage on most things but the main icon says i have complete coverage so i shut off auto protect and it still wouldnt allow Lw to access the internet and open

does anyone have a clue on how to fix this....I NEED MUSIC lol

thanks for the help im glad i got rid of that virus..well i think i got rid of it because LW stopped opening up and giving me random files after i got this anti-virus

ill check out that norbies site just to make sure its gone but ive scanned my computer 3 times today just to know for sure and no virus's or anything came up

thanks again

Go and take a look here:
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=51361

There it is explained how to configure your firewall. Just do not run two firewalls at the same time. Choose one and stay with it.
