Downloading problem...

Hey, I had a quick question that I'm hoping someone could answer for me. I'm trying to download a certain file, but everytime I double click on it to download it, it opens a page in my internet explorer and it goes to some "artistsdirect.com" or something like that. It won't let me download the file at all and when I do find one that doesn't open into a new window, it never connects. If anyone has any ideas as to how I can fix it, please let me know! Thanks so much!

Download the newest version of LW. This problem has been solved with it.:
http://www.limewire.com/

If you want to know more about this problem, use the search function of this forum typing artistdirect, napster.........you'll find a lot of posts talking about them...
;)

I tried that...

Hey, thanks for all the help! I downloaded the new version of limewire and while I don't get the new internet explorer window popping up, it still doesn't connect to download the file. First I thought that it might just be the file, but I tried another one, and it still doesn't work. Is there a reason for this and if so, how do I fix it? Thanks so much!

Well, if you can you give us a total description of your set up, then we might be able to clear this question:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

;)

Done all that yet still very slow. from 4 connections I get no more than 3kbs and it drops to 0 and hangs for ages, most of the time resulting in a waiting for busy host or need more resources outcome, very frustrating especially as I have bought into Pro Limewire.

My reply to that post was in regard to artistdirect and napster re-directing downloads, not in regard to download speed problems.

And if you had read my reply to the users download speed problem more carefully, you would have posted your detailed setup configuration as asked in my post to make my attempt to help you a bit easier (see the questions 1 - 12).
The way you want me to help you, I guess, I have to look into my cristal ball to find a solution for you.......

I assume that you see a brickwall in front of the small globe in the left bottom corner of the LW window, which would mean that LW detects a firewall blocking you to access the network.

Here is a link on how to configure any firewall (Connection problems -click first):
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=51361
You can find your firewall at Desktop>Start>Settings>Control Panel>Windows Firewall

Another thing to try would be to delete the LW preference folder called " .limewire " as described in the following thread (Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire)
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420

However, if you have this problem only with a specific file (i.e. you do not see the brickwall), then it might be that the host(s) of said file are either offline, have moved-renamed-deleted the file. You might want to re-search that file again using different search terms.

My general experience with Universities is that they tend to block P2P programs, or shape the bandwidth used by students with a high bandwidth usage. But since you said you have a dial-up connection (is it a 56k modem, Adsl, or ?????)

Try the above and see if it solves your problem. If not, get back here and we check further....;)

Oh! dear what a precious little thing you are, best to ignore me son if that's the best reply you can come up with to a genuine problem, the world is not all about you and yours...sorry.

Well I finally downloaded that file that I've been trying to download. It looks like I can only download files from people that have a T3 or higher connection. Thanks for all of your help! Have a great day!
