Odd problem with downloading in general

This has happened once before but went away once I updated Java...but now it's back since I've upgraded Limewire. For some reason, even though the search results say there are 100+ people with a song, it gets stuck at Connecting... and times out and says there are not enough sources. Like I said earlier, awhile ago I updated Java and it worked perfectly again. However, there is no new update to java, and none of my settings with Limewire have been changed. Just a bit confused and wondering what is going on and what I can do about it. Any help would be appreciated.

Note: This is also happening with the other computer in the house.

There are loads of fake files around now, which typically have heaps of sources & are often new releases. They'll sit connecting forever but never download. Stay away from files with huge numbers of sources, go for a file with 10 sources or less!

If you find the connecting issue happens with all files, try deleting your preferences folder when LW's closed. See points 2 & 3 here
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill your settings within Options, you'll have to go back through & reset things afterwards:)

The first time I had this issue, I updated Java. Maybe you need to do the same? *scratches head*

It happens mostly with newer/popular files. Try searching for something older and you probably won't have any trouble.

Those fake files are being put on the network by organizations(movie and music industry) that want to dissuade people from downloading copyright material on p2p networks.

funnyav,
Did you try deleting LW's preference folder (there's a link in post #2)?
In your other thread you said you're behind a firewall but your screenshot didn't show the firewall icon. Do you mean that you're using a software firewall or that sometimes you see the LW firewall icon?

Another thing to try if you having trouble finding legitimate files to download is to disconnect limewire form the network(File>Disconnect) then reconnect(File>Connect).

When LW reconnects it will find different ultrapeers to connect to which may improve your downloading success.

Hello everyone

I have a similar problem to what others have reported. Attempted a download using 4.9 (I think) and started to get redirected to Napster. So after some initial research I downloaded the latest version. However most files don't seem to download, I get the 'need more sources' message all the time, even for files which didn't seem that rare ( I mainly use LW for 'live' version of tracks, which are not generally available commercially).

I use Mac OS 10.3.9.

I get 5 bars on my connection menu and no brick wall on the globe - just like I always have. I am behind a firewall but I have UPNP enabled so LW has always worked.

Out of desperation, to see if I could download ANY files, I tried to download something very popular (won't say what). That worked.

I doubt that the files I tried to download were fakes, as they are generally files that are not available commercially. They all indicated at least 20 or 30 sources but not 100 so I doubt they are 'planted fakes'.

Any ideas?
