 For people having issues with codecs, we usually recommend them to download the free VLC media player which comes with built-in codecs and can usually play almost every media file typ. It is also very reliable and AFAIK most of the Mods here use it by themseves. You can get it here, so give it a try: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
