Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

the newest version i just downloaded

it said that , downloading from (#) host but the speed is 0kb/s

foolofthehill July 24th, 2006 08:48 AM

Could have several reasons......besides you haven't answered some essential questions possibly necessary to give you some proper advice...

If you try to download files with hundreds of hosts, forget about it, since those are most likely faked files. Try to choose from files with 10-20 hosts.

When downloading and installing Java, did you use the JRE offline installer? And before installing it, did you remove all other Java version from your computer??

One thing to do, if all the above failed is to delete the LW preference folder. Depending on your version (4.12. or older) they are named " LimeWire" and " .limewire ". The first one is located in the hidden Application folder under C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator<Your computer name>\Application Data.
To find the latter one, follow the link here. But make sure that in either case (or both, if you had an older LW version previously installed) LW is completely closed, i.e. also in the system tray (Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire)

hmm about the JAVA

i did the online install but i get it from download.com so i dont know if it the right version for LW or now, could that be the problem ?

foolofthehill July 24th, 2006 09:01 AM

Okay, uninstall LW and all Java versions on your pc.
Then reboot.
Go here to download said JRE offline installer for your system:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
Install it and reboot again. Then install LW again.
Hope that solves your problem.....

Always best to get programs from their official sites

JAVA:

http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp?cid=jdp79414

Limewire:

www.limewire.com

BTW it is recommended to do the offline install with both

l33tthaicr3w July 24th, 2006 09:09 AM

foolofthehill July 24th, 2006 09:15 AM

l33tthaicr3w July 24th, 2006 09:51 AM

Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language 18MB that is the one right.

And about the copyright thing, it read other polls say something about click the wrong tick something and they cannot download maybe that is my problem. how do i prevent it when install

foolofthehill July 24th, 2006 10:11 AM

This message about the license won't pop up while you are installing. After your first seach and download attempt, it will remind you that you need a license to download specific files. It will offer you to click "YES" and "NO" to the question whether you want to download the file (anyway). There should also be a small square saying "use always this answer". Tick it and then press "YES" if the license issue isn't a (ethical) bother for you.....;)
If you mess it up, follow this link on how to correct a wrong answer to this case (which would prevent you from doanloading a lot of files):

l33tthaicr3w July 24th, 2006 10:22 AM

i fisnished the step that u gave me but there is one more issue

on the buttom where it show the connection , mine keep up and down none stop from 2 to 4 and i can't get a good steady connection to search or download.

therefore i couldn't search at all.

l33tthaicr3w July 24th, 2006 10:23 AM

oh another thing every time i start up LW it brick alway infront of the globe than after a while it disappear

foolofthehill July 24th, 2006 10:24 AM

Sometimes LW need some time to settle down....can be anything from 2 - 45 minutes. If you do not see a small brickwall in front of the globe in the left bottom corner, then you're almost there. That the brickwall disappears is good for both of us....
Patience is a virtue, with computers a necessity.....as a wise friend of mine once stated.....

Sleepless July 24th, 2006 03:55 PM

Try posting more specific info on setup first. Please try to answer all the questions.

Just copy/paste this into a reply with your answers :)

1. What's your connection like - do you have any green bars at all?
Is there a brick wall in front of world ?

2. Do this test & see if it works. What does it say ?
http://www3.limewire.com:6346

3. What are your details

OS ? (Win XP, Mac OSX etc.)
How much free harddiskspace ?
How much RAM ?
LW & Java version ? (In Limewire press Help>about LW & you'll see)
What Firewall you're using ?
Any Antivirus/spyware programs that youre using ?
Modem/router brand & model ?
Are you using portforwarding, UPnP or nothing ? (Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall Config)
What is your listening port ? (Same as above)
ISP (Internet Service Provider) ?
Connection type (Dial-Up, ADSL, DSL etc.) + Speed Up/Down if you know ?
Where you connect from (home, school etc.) ?
Are you sharing a connection with other computers ?
Has Limewire ever worked for you ? If so how long have you been using it ?

Have you tried using any other P2P apps & if so, do you have the same problems (BitTorrent, Shareaza etc.)?

Give a detailed description of your problem. Also include any attempts to fix this. It helps people rule things out

l33tthaicr3w July 26th, 2006 03:40 AM

well the freen bar is now full , no brick wall

i'm downloading a movie(like mike) and the speed i get only 2-5 kb/s is that normal ?? is so slow

Sleepless July 26th, 2006 08:33 AM

Could be your ISP using traffic shaping on P2P

If you could tell us a bit more about the setup. Like e.g. your ISP maybe some site would mention if it's not P2P friendly. Seriously try and anwswer all the questions not just some.

You could be picking bad downloads as well

Try some of the tips in here and see if you get better speed

How to find music :)

There is a lot of spam on the Network and these are ways to get around it
