Always "needs more sources"

Every time I try to download a song (have tried a few different artists), it gives the needs more sources error message and eventually just stops, leaving some "queued" and some "connecting...". I have checked all firewalls, and reinstalled. I know that this may sometimes happen and has not previously been an issue except on rare occasions, but now happens on every download. help?...

edit: I recently upgraded my internet connection from Bellsouth DSL lite to DSL xtreme 3.0 (I'm pretty sure thats what its called) I was thinking this might be a problem because before the upgrade it worked perfectly fine. Any other threads I have looked at on this topic have been rather unhelpful and sometimes link to completely unrelated topics...

edit again: It may also help to know that I am on an XP operating system, and that when I tried to reinstall I had to use the offline installer because the recommended one wouldnt run (same problem it said downloading from 0 of 4xx) and I experienced the same difficulties with eMule and shareaza.

and another edit: I finally got one to work, but I did not change anything and it is running impossibly slow and several others are still "connecting", could it be a coincidence that all of the songs ive recently tried just dont have many sources (around 75)? seems unlikely and besides ive checked a few that arent working with bitzi but it says they're fine, most have between 10 and 20 sources etc. and all other tests for legitimacy and even the one that i got working should be running about 4 times faster at least, and one other thought, I recently switched to Firefox from IE, it seems unlikely to me but would that make a difference?

I am having the same problem. Recently upgraded from dial up to broadband and now limewire won't connect. Says needs more sources error message and eventually just stops, leaving some "queued" and some "connecting...". Tried uninstalling limewire and then reinstalling. Not working. Changed the connection from dial up to cable. Also went through the firewall stuff recommended on limewire website. HELP

"Connecting" forever, then "Need more sources"

I've tried to download "Elton John - The ***** is Back" and each time on every file for Elton John is says "connecting", the later says, "need more sources" even though it shows that a bunch of people have the file... What's up with this? is it a firewall issue? I have Norton Antivirus and Bellsouth DSL 3.0 also.

I am having one problem.I seem to have full access to anything except one individual tv show.Anything but these files will download and run fine but these always say "conecting" for a long time then "need more sources" .Source search does nothing but waste time and come up empty.
I have read a number of related threads here and tried the suggestion of loading from a file that shows just a few sources to no avail.Doesn't seem to make any difference if the file shows 100 sources or zero and all inbetween. These video files simply won't download while practicaly anything else will.
I went through all the setups for filtering and other things in the advanced tools section and still no luck.
Is there such a thing as a "licensed lockout" on some files? Again,These are .avi files of a tv program that average 349. meg.
Anyone familliar with this problem and how to fix it?
Thanks.

Hmm, since you can download other files just fine, it looks like it is a "faked" file. Did you check the file with Bitzi?
How to use Bitzi

Other than that (if it is the same regardless of the amount of hosts hosting the file) I can not think of. Sometimes people can't download a file because the host is behind a corporate firewall......, or the host doesn't allow people to download with less than "XXX" files to prevent free loaders.

I'm having this same problem. I turned Norton Anti-Virus off, and it's still happening. Regardless of the file, and how many hosts it has, it still gives me the message "needs more sources."

I've got to agree that is a more common problem. I've been a casual limewire user for about a year now and when I first began to use the program, I would run into a few Needs More Sources areas, but tonight as I try to download a particular song and I am completely stymied. I've already tried 31 sites and they're all a bust.

I am an advanced computer user, using a cable setup, and upgraded to Limewire 4.12. I tried the Bitzi lookup, but all I get is No Information and a semi-pornographic ad  for some dating site.

I'm open for any new ideas. :(

Sorry but could you edit out the name of the copyrighted song you're trying to download? Just that it's against the Forum Rules;)

Unfortunately not much music is rated with Bitzi (it should be!), people tend to use it more for rating video.

Try using the All Types search as well as Audio. Look for artist or album name rather than song title. The fake files used to be most common with new releases but it seems like they're appearing with searches for older files too:(
Stay away from the files with huge numbers of sources, I go for files with 10 sources or less.

*D'oh!" Thanks for the heads up Birdy. To late at night here, I guess.

I've continued to try my downloads, up to 40 + now, and I've gone full spectrum from 1 to 99 sources. Very discouraging.

Yeah it's a PITA for sure. Try the other search category & also varied search terms, I've had some joy that way. Also remember to search at different times of day... as users in other time zones log on & off, new sources become available!
