Cant download I've used limewire without any trouble for quite a while until a few days ago when after clicking download, the file say connecting and then does absolutely nothing for about, when it will say need more sources. This happens on evrything I try to download, including files reporting around 9 hosts that aren't fakes. I do use wireless internet however it is UPnP enabled and with LW also being UPnP enabled I can't see this being the problem. Does anyone know what my problem could be? |
Make a note of all your important options settings under Tools>Options such as save location, etc. Then try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) Next time you open LW it will ask you to reset your options as though you're using it for the 1st time. Tell us if that has any beneficial effect. ;) |
Just tried this and there was no change. I have also tried removing LW and the Java app it needs and re-installing them but again to encounter the same problem  |
How do you know those files aren't fakes? If you've used LW for a long time, you'd also be aware certain days or times, or even weeks are better than others. What client hosts are you trying to downld from? LimeWire, FrostWire, Raza, etc.? Have you set LW to show which gnutella client it is? |
Thats a fair point but it happens with literally every single file I try to download so I doubt I have managed to pick out a fake every time. I also read elsewhere on the forum that by choosing a file with fewer hosts shown that the file is less likely to be a fake and files with fewer host give the same results. I have no idea what the FrostWire info is, would that make any difference if I changed it? |
Did you see my last question I edited in? Do you use Bitzi to check if there's user responses to particular files? |
I have opened Bitzi on the files this happens on and every time it says that Bitpedia has no information on the bitprint |
1 Attachment(s) Hmm well it sounds suspicious then. Many people (the wise ones) will only download files that are verified as being good on Bitzi. BTW you can search Bitzi for the file you're after & look at other terms the file is known under. That can help you search for them. If downlding videos, be wary of RAZA (Shareaza) users. Whilst they often have very good files, due to them connecting to more than one network & using most of their bandwidth on the other networks, they don't leave much left over for the gnutella network. They can be very difficult to connect to & if you can, they are unreliable & frequently very slow to downld from. Right-click the top of the search results window column & choose to show Vendor/Version. You can do the same with the downld & upload windows. Attachment 2686 |
The vendor is displaying 'LIME' on every occurence of the file I'm trying to download  Just tried Bitzi again on a totally random file and it reported it OK etc... and started to download without any problem so I'm assuming there's some kind of problem with the file I wanted as it isn't a LW bug, it looks like these files all have problems of some sort. Many thanks for the help anyway |
Let's try an experiment, try downloading a magnet link file from here: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml Tell us what happens & what speeds if any you get. ;) BTW who is your ISP (internet service provider)? |
Every link I click on says that 'the protocol (magnet) isn't associated with any program'. I am using Mozilla Firefox though if that browser doesn't work with them? |
That's odd! Firefox should work fine with them. Do you have any other p2p sharing programs similar to LW on your computer? Normally LW will become your default magnet handler unless another program forces its way to become the default. You could try another browser if you have one, but it sounds like that won't make any difference anyway. How did you uninstall LW earlier? Or did you just run the installer to reinstall? |
All I have is LW and BitTorrent, could a conflict be causing the problem? |
Ah ... yes ... that will be the conflict. Hmm well I guess we can forget the magnet links. :D When you open LW, does it ask you anything about being the magnet handler? It's not important now. Do you run bittorrent at the same time as LW? It's generally not recommended! If you do, that may be why the magnet handler situation is not working. Well all I can suggest is you keep trying more files to downld, also try varying your search terms so you may find the identical file but under a slightly different name. And it may be reliable. |
I never leave either program running in the 'systray' when not downloading and only use BitTorrent when LW cannot find or download the file as it tends to be slower. No LW opens as normal, suggests I update to LW PRO and after clicking later runs in exactly the same fashion it did when it worked previously. |
So, what you're saying is that there are certain files you can download: " .. and started to download without any problem " Those checked and confirmed with Bitzi.....right? And while trying to download with LW, your bittorrent is completely closed (checked via Task Manager>Processes)??? Since LW is asking you to update (to a newer version rather than to Pro), what LW version are you using, and where did you get it from (the official LW website [http://www.limeiwre.com])?? What about your free diskspace you download with LW to?? Recently I have found a lot faked files with even less than 3 hosts; obviously shared by the RIAA to discourage P2P users from downloading copyright protected material........;) http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h1.../Smilywais.gif |
I have the latest version of LW (ver 4.12.4) as I downloaded it before when I re-installed it and it was downloaded directly from the LW site so that's not the problem. BitTottent is completely closed as it isn't set to run on startup and is disabled in 'msconfig' but still LW doesn't work after rebooting. It is possible that they're fakes however if that is the case then how can every occurrence of a file be a fake, surely some out there are genuine? |
