Really slow downloads but fast internet connection I have ran limewire on three different internet connections now and for some reason it is really slow with this connection. The first internet connection i had on this computer was telus ADSL and I could simultaniously download 10 songs at 20-40 Kbs easily. My second connection was telus 56k dialup and i could download 4 songs at 2-7 Kbs fairly easily. My new connection is personna cable rocket and is the fastest connection i have ran on my computer yet (for everything except for dnlding) and for some reason it downloads slower than my dialup connection did. I have already set up my firewall to allow limewire to bypass it and applied the TCPIP.sys patch. I even bought limewire pro to see if it downloads faster. Also I have a friend who has cable rocket too and their limewire downloads really fast, the only difference is that I am running an RCA cable modem and they are running a linksys. So I was just wondering a new modem would fix this problem or if there is something else I should try. |
Try the .limewire fix. I do not think it is the RCA cable modem I am using on (RCA Digital Cable Modem) and am having no problem. If the .limewire fix doesn't work you can try resetting the modem by unplugging the modem for 30 sec then plug it back in. On the back of the modem there should be a reset button, push it in for 15 sec after you plug it back in. It will reset it to the default settings if something got messed up somehow. The Link below has the .limewire fix in it. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=36420 |
I tried it but it didnt work I have just finished trying both of your suggestions and they didn't work at all. I am still downloading at 1 Kb/s (when I'm lucky) so I think I either need to go back to ADSL or get a new modem. |
Do you see a wall in front of the globe in Limewire ? Also how does Limewire connect ? (Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewall Config) Have you tried portforwarding a port ? |
As I already said, I have bipassed my firewall. And yes my limewire does connect. But thanks for the suggestions anyway. |
Could you copy/paste a bugreport here Go to tools>options>bug reports>view example bugreport ctrl a will mark the whole text Ctrl c will copy it Then just paste it in a reply |

Looks like it is set up right, and as you said no firewall issue. I would normally say that your ISP has probably started using trafficshaping but you allready mentioned that your friend has the same service. There are two possibilities that still come to mind regarding your ISP 1. You have a quota on amount of data you get to download/upload during each month and you have exceted that amount this month. This can either be checked by calling up your ISP and asking or you can wait until the start of next month to see if you can download again. 2. They started using portblocking. This can be checked by changing your port (try one between 50.000 and 60.000) |
hello everyone. im having the exact same problem that Kyle-r is having and i tryed everything. plus my cable modem provider told me that there is no restrictions on downloads. so i dont know what to do. if anyone can offer some help, it would be greatly apreciated. |
well, its windows xp, i got norton firewall (but i got it to"Permit All" when it comes to LW), i belive i got 512 ram, though im not sure, i got 40 gbs left of memory, using cable modem, im conecting from home and i got OneLink as a provider and im using LW Pro 4.12.6 (aka the new one). but i never had this problem its that now i switched from regular dsl to cable dsl and my downloads are extreamly slow. oh, and the test worked. |
if you have router configer port forwarding essply if got any firewall or wall by globe, if this doesnt help run avast home free to check for viruses on boot scan http://www.avast.com |
HawkStarwind, What's the model of your modem? What's your location (if you're with Onelink in Puerto Rico there might be a traffic shaping issue)? |
well, the avast scan came out clean, and my router is downloading stuff from the web like a champ |
well, the model is the SB5101i-NP and yeas, im from Puerto Rico, so whats with the traffic shaping issue. they didnt told me anything on costumer support, and id only had cable dsl since wensday. |
did you reinstall java completly still sounds like my router firewall issue i had and yes its anoying |
well i havent reinstall java, but im not sure how to. plus, i dont know how to check if my modem has firewall capabilites or not. the guy that installed it didnt mencion any, though. |
If you read this article, the guy's also had trouble with Onelink using p2p (including LW). http://shakadatechy.blogspot.com/ This article also suggests the same thing. It's a bit older than the first one but still from 2006 http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...hia+bittorrent Unfortunately, if your provider's using traffic shaping for p2p then there's not a whole lot that you can do:( You could try changing ports to one between 49152 - 65535. No guarantees though, it depends on if your ISP's monitoring all ports. Often, people on an ISP's help desk don't even know that this technology's being used! Read those articles & see what you think. You'll probably find more if you do a search with Google. |
you might call your isp and see if you can trade the moduem you have for difrent brand if your surius about getting it to work i suggest terayon or motorola but they could be using local brands |
wow birdy, i had no idea this was happening. so its not the modem or the router. its the provider. man, i wish i knew this sooner. Thanks to everyone who helped, i apreciated!! :) |
Lots of ISPs do it & it's a pain for many people!! If you do want to try changing ports, you'll have to change LW's listening port (tools > options > advanced > firewall config...you'll see listening port top right. Apply to save a change) plus any ports allowed within your software firewall & any ports forwarded through a modem or router. All ports have to be the same number:) |
im not sure how to change the ports, but i'll just google it and it should come through, thought. :) thans for all the advise |
If you do want to try changing ports & get stuck... just post back! |
i will, thanks! |
