Default MP liscence acquisition.

I've read all the posts under "liscence" but still have questions. Here's what I got...

Have LW basic, windowsXP, & dsl, I've added gnutella under windows firewall, but when I try to play files in Media Player avg registers install as virus! & won't allow me to finish liscence install ...always wants to quarantine and heal (delete file)

How can I configure AVG to allow this liscence acquisition so I can finally listen to Media Player audio's I download, cuz until now I have been a****ding it...but some of dem look really good.

Thanks for any help ~J

1. Make sure they are "all" over 1,000 KB (1 MB) in size or else they probably do have problems.

2. Beware of wma & other windows formats such as asf & asx; see What you should know about WMA/WMV Files

Hey yeah... I have noticed that some dnlds have only 1 kb....an that is trash - yeah!?

However, that isn't the prob here...the files download fine, I just can't play them. I think I need to config AVG to allow it.

Sorry, I do use AVG but have never had probs with it. Perhaps someone else can advise.

Any audio file under 1,000 KB is junk!!!!!!!!!!

Make sure your player has the correct CODECs to play them! CODECs list and alternate players for Movies

You have great advice....LTR! I've seen you posting forever here, and you stuff is always spot on. You're a great resource.

I've been busy dnldg mp3 repair (which helped with another prob I was diggin but didn't write it in yet...fixed 'er right up uh hummm!).... also dwnld several codec helpers...still having AVG issues, though.
I am pretty picky about which files I will dwnld....no http, exe, low kb's ect..., and all my files are 2500kb and higher. I'm just stumped. Thanks for the help....way too much info out there to try to wade through is solo, ya know? Anyways, thanks and I'll keep checking back to seE if anyone else has any ideas. ~J

Hey just thought I'd give you a little more info on the AVG pop up...

When I try to play file in MP, it starts a pop up to acquire liscence.

I click play and the install / don't install pop up.

I click install, and AVG pop ups with da troll telling me it has encountered virus...description : Trojanhorsedialer.1stbar.Qi

Now, I've tried to ignore it, thinking that maybe I could just go around AVG, but I don't know how to go past it with the next pop up. I don't know what to browse ect.

I'm not sure if any of this info helps or is just flim-flam...anyhow, thanks ~J

You never did say whether they are mp3 or wma, etc. It sounds like your wmp might be lacking the appropriate codecs for some audio files. wmp codecs, ___ 3ivx codec for mp4, & in fact probably a good idea to sift through here AUDIO CODECS at free-codecs.com. At least if you know you have all necessary codecs, any popup saying you need to download more may be a trick! I know you said you downlded extra codecs, but just be sure you have all you need. eg: dialers are typical of what you may find with wma & asf files. They try to trick you into going to their site.

Good advice....they actually are all WMA....dirty scoundrels!

I only downloaded one codec and I couldn't tell you what it is, because I wasn't sure how to check to see what I've already got, also I wasn't sure how to install them once I had dnld-d them. Is there a sticky here that can walk me thru the of finding out what codecs I got, what to get that I don't have but need, and how to install to use 'em???

Thank you for the keen info on wma. ~J
