Max Download Speed 2kb/s! WTF I have used limewire for many a year and just recently to my dismay my maximum download speed has become around 2kb/s when previously it has been upwards of 100kb/s i have not changed anything to limewire's settings and i am getting quite frustrated trying to figure this problem out. any help would be much appreciated. |
Download a file from here & see what speed you get http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml Have there been any changes to hardware or ISP plan etc? Who is your ISP? Are you using any other p2p apps & if so, is the same thing happening? |
hey birdy, thanks for the fast reply, my download speed on that file was 1kb/s, and i have not made any changes to hardware or my ISP, and when i use the internet it downloads at the usual rate, and i am not certain of my ISP. any other tips? |
oh yeah i also tried morpheus and that same thing happened |
Post your details:) OS(Win XP etc) LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see) Firewall you're using Modem/router brand & model ISP Connection type (DSL etc) Where you connect from (home, school etc) Are you sharing a connection with other computers Is this your first try with LW We need to find out who your ISP is because it sounds like they could be using traffic shaping. Having 2 p2p apps with the same problem sounds ominous! Many ISPs are doing this now & most don't give their customers any warning. |
OS = Win XP LW = 4.12.6 Java version = 1.5.0_06 Firewall = Windows Firewall Modem/router = Belkin ISP = Platinum (i believe) Connection type = Radio Where you connect from = home Are you sharing a connection with other computers = yes Is this your first try with LW = no (used for many years since 2002) |
What's the model of your Belkin? Do you have port forwarding set up? If not, that's something you could try. Have a look at the site below, if your router's listed then you'll find step by step instructions. http://www.portforward.com/english/r...outerindex.htm (if you do set up port forwarding, afterwards go to LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Choose the 'manual port forward' option & enter the port number that you've forwarded > apply) Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall)? Make sure that your XP firewall's still configured correctly. Firewall setup I've had a look through Platinum's terms & conditions & acceptable use policy... there's no mention of shaping or excessive bandwidth use. But, that's not to say that the ISP isn't up to something:) |
