limewire/direcway Everything was working fine until recently. I've had no trouble downloading at very decent speeds. Then about 2 weeks ago, that all came to an end. I understand that (at that time) DirecWay made drastic changes to their system, blocking certain connections. I was without email for days because of it. And as many of you probably know, DirecWay isn't known for their good customer service. My problem is, I cannot download using LimeWire anymore. Well, that's not entirely true... I can download, but only at 1KB speeds. It goes between 0 and 1, usually. If I'm lucky, I get a whopping 2 or 3. What took 1-2 minutes to download, now takes me an hour or so. I have all the exceptions set in my firewall. That was always done. I can download mp3's from the internet NOT using a p2p program, such as LimeWire. But when using a p2p, it only goes at 1KB. We've checked everything we know how to. Reset things a zillion times. Does anyone have any ideas here? We have the DW6000. We also installed their stupid LAN client, as they suggested. We don't use a LAN line to connect. Nothing works to fix the problem with LimeWire and I'm frustrated beyond belief. :bangh: Please don't suggest I unplug the modem... I've heard that about a gillion times recently and is irrelevant to my problem Thanks. ...v |
It sounds like your ISP is shaping your use of p2p. Well if your isp is suddenly blocking or filtering, you could try a few things. One is to try at a different time of day. 2nd is to change the ports, ie; go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced & change the listening & connection ports to one between these 49152 - 65535. BTW do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Was it always like that? |
LOTR, I'll try the other ports. Thank you. I thought about that but didn't know what to use. Yes, the brick wall was always in front of the world icon at the bottom left. It's there now. I've even disabled my firewall and I still cannot download faster than 1KB. I'll try those things in the meantime. ...v Quote:

I've turned the FW off and it still shows the brickwall icon. |
Nothing works. I've tried several different port numbers. Same thing... download at 0-2 KB. |
If the firewall is not the softw firewall then it must be your connection device. Can you possible access it's manager using your browser so you can check if it has UPnP support? |
I can access the satellite modem's info page, but I cannot find anything about UPnP support. I'm still looking. |
I can't find anything about that. There's not even a place to search their help files (lame, but not surprizing). |
Ah so the DW6000 is a satellite system. No wonder. See http://www.copperhead.cc/DW6000.htm Tips-N-Tricks link does mention something about ports. BTW I can't download any of those manuals because I get permission errors. Do a seach on the forums for DirecWay & you'll see similar stories. Also see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...light=DirecWay I did read some time back that sat providers are very quick to apply limits on bandwidth use. The fact it was working fine then not. |
Been on vacation and haven't had time to get back to this issue... Anyways, it's still not working. We've been trying everything. Haven't looked at those links yet, but will. I'm not over my download limit of 167 mb per 4 hour period. That's not the problem. The problem seems to lie somewhere with DirecWay's authentication thing they put on their system. Once they did that, we couldn't receive our email anymore. Then LimeWire wouldn't work at more than downloading 1KB speed. We just can't figure out what to do about that. And their tech people don't know anything. It's pathetic. |
