Default Only have Windows Media Player icon and reduced search results.

Hi,

Not sure whether this has been asked before - I've searched but found no answers - so if anyone can help, thanks in advance.

I recently upgraded to version 4.12.6 and since then seem to get far fewer results when I search. The only search results that do show always have the Windows Media Player icon next to them and not the green ITunes music icon that I used to see on my old version.
I used to get far more results which was great as I primarily listen to more obscure artists.

Is this a common problem? Is there anything I can do about it? Do I need to select something like 'allow ITunes' results'???

I'm really regretting uprading to this newer version as it seems to find me far less music!

Any ideas please?

Many thanks in advance,

Nap

The icons represent the default player you have set for that type of file. My audio files have a blue winamp icon by them, my videos have a WMP icon, pics have a infranview icon, ect.

It goes by the file types e.g. mp3, m4a, wma, mpg, avi, ect. And the media players you have associated with them.

To my knowledge there isn't an option to allow itunes. Try putting the file extension at the end of the file your searching for: "Mary Had A Little Lamb.mp3"
for example.

Thanks Pac,

Is there a way to change my default player?

I've just done two searches for the same song and had far more returns when I added mp3 to the end of the search. However, will this help when searching by artist?

Also, as mentioned, on my previous version of Limewire, the songs that were available to download had either the Media player icon, or the green music note icon (ITunes I think), so I had the best of both worlds and far more downloads to choose from.

I hope that makes sense?!?

Cheers,
Nap

Hi Nap,

If you recently updated WMP it probably changed itself back to being your default player. That may be why all your files show the WMP icon.

You can change the default player by opening your music folder outside of Limewire(go to the library page in LW click on your music folder, and click the explore button). Once the folder opens up, right click one of your music files and click on "Properties". Then where it says "Opens With", click "Change", and then choose the player you want from the list. Then click ok and then apply. That should change all files of that type back to what you had. You may need to either refresh the library page or shut LW down and restart it for the changes to show.

Hope I didn't confuse you. There's more info in this thread: Setting Default video app

Really though, the icons that show in LW have nothing to do with the amount of search results or the quality of the file. It just shows the default player you have set for that type of file:wink:.

Don't know if putting .mp3 with the artist's name will help. You'll have to try it.
