tiffanyyy, Go through this thread, it has lots of info about connection/firewall problems. Your modem/router might have it's own internal firewall, so read the bits about enabling UPnP & port forwarding. Connection problems? Check here first! If you're still stuck, post back with your details. The second post in the connections thread will tell you the info we need:) skkycaptain, Click on the link below, it should sort out your language problem:wink: How to change language |

Hi pinkshine, You need to post the details of your setup so someone can help you: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Try the link in birdy's post above for more help. |
My info I have windows xp im trying to connect from home im not sure of the ram or the what fire walls, the only fire wall things i can think of are the ones for aol and all the internet stuff, i have a dial up connection, i have lime wire pro 14.12.3 and java 1.5.0_06, there IS a wall infront of the globe down the bottom, this is a first problem ive had with a downloading agent and im not that experienced, my internet service provider is AOL, when i did the test you suggested it said it worked, im not sharing the connection with any other computer. |
You'll need to configure windows firewall to allow limewire access to the internet. Directions in this link: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml. Some of AOL's anti-spyware(Pest patrol) may detect limewire as spyware. You may need to make an exception for LW. Your on dial-up, so you don't have much bandwidth to play with. Follow Grandpa's advice in this thread on how to best configure LW: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...-up#post175733 |
i have high speed internet. the problem with this link [http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...rewalls.shtml] is the 1st and 2nd step cuz i CANT get into limewire at all soo i can click tools and ****. the rest of the stepz i can do. and without gettin into limewire i cant get the internal & exteranl numbers or whatever. thnx for the help! |
LW's default port is 6346... give that a try:) |
that number didnt work! and i bought limewire pro and it STILL doesnt work. this message comes up "LimeWire was unable to initalize and start. This is usually due to a firewall program blocking limewires acess to the internet or loopback connections on the local machine. Please allow limewire acess to the internet and restart limewire." And those links you guys gave me dont work because in the step 1 & 2 it says go into limewire and that is the problem i cant soo i duno the internal and external port numbers.. they rest i can do. PLEASE HELP MEE! =( |
Maybe it's time you gave some details:D The connection problems link in my post #4 will tell you what info we need!! |
i went thru the steps. i dont have any firewalls on my computer. i have high speed internet. 248 RAM. Windows Xp. i had norton virus thingy but i got rid of it a long time ago. AOL had a firewall but i deleted that also. soo windows should be my only firewall. i jus got my ipod bak && im tryin to put on songz but i cant cuz limewire doesnt work =( |
Do you use a modem or router? If you do, what's the brand & model? Where are you connecting from (home, school, student accommodation etc)? Did you do the port 6346 test & did it work? What's changed since LW used to work (new LW version, new hardware etc)? Are you sharing a connection with other computers? What kind of high speed connection do you have (cable, satellite etc)? |
a motorola router, comcast high speed internet, no im not sharing my connection with any other computer, yes i tryed puttin in 6346 in the external AND internal boxes and limewire still wouldnt open, we reboted the system & got a new network chip [but i dont think we needed it cuz after we put it in i found a cord unpluged]. & im using my home computer. i hope that is all the information you need any help at all would be SOO gratful. you have no idea! |
Remove your current version of Java & then reinstall JRE using the offline installer, it's point 1 in the thread below. Fixes for LimeWire Also delete the LW preferences folder, see points 2 & 3 in that thread. See if that at least gets LW opening:) |
My Limewire Is Firewalled?? I use Limewire Pro 4.12.6 I connect to the interent via a router (Netgear DG834GT.. but also use a 54mbps wireless ****** to access the internet) I have a broadband connection When i open limewire it recieves a turbo charged connection. I have no firewalls installed,so therfore i guess the only 1 acting is windows. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. Tried the test page suggested and recieve the answer 'Your test worked!' This is my first try with limewire. I also have the latest version of Java. Im connecting from home. My isp is talk talk . The connection is not shared And i see the brickwall infront of the globe at the bottom of the limewire page. I have 512mb of ram and well over 70gb of hard disk space available. Please please please could someone try and help me im really frustrated by this, and have a decent understanding of how to configure firewalls etc.. but just cant work out what is stopping it from connecting properly. Although i recieve a turbo connection it only downloads at 2kbps if it downloads anything at all . PLEASE HELP |

I can't find a solution. Hello. I've been reading all these threads and still cannot solve this problem. I'm using Windows 98 SE (it doesn't has firewalls), 196 RAM, 700 Mb free and connected throw broadband and always try to connect from home. I have Norton System Works 2001 (it has no firewalls). Passed the test at http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ ('Your test worked!'). The company server insist they aren't blocking the program ports. When connect LW I see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface and never goes away. Always trying to connect and only the first (smallest) bar is in green. The rest are in red. Two months ago I could use LW without any problems. I don't know what else to do. Thanks for some help! |
Try in limewire to go to Tools>options>Firewall Config and set your listening port to 6346 then choose manual portforward and write 6346 in there too. Then press Apply and OK |
Still trying... Thank you sleepless. Anyway it didn't work as well :( .... I'll keep on trying with different things. If you have any other idea please let me know! Thanks!!! |
What kind of connection do you have? modem or router etc. dial-up or cable or adsl etc. |
Kind of connection. It's broadband. |
I guess the server has a router to distribute the broadband. It comes to the building by air. |
If you are using the same net used by many others then there is a good chance that it is being shaped, so that people using P2P networks don't use up all the bandwidth. Also there is a chance that your ISP has started blocking P2P or specifically Limewire. As far as I know more and more ISP's that use satellite distribution for their internet have started shaping or blocking P2P usage. I would suggest that you have a talk with the net supervisor in your building about how to get Limewire through, but just know that chances are that he'll say that, because of the high usage you are not allowed to use it anymore. If he on the other hand doesn't mind then ask him to try and forward a port for you, (some high port in the 50000-65000 range eg. 64049) and then change your numbers in Limewire to the same number. You will need a static IP on your computer as well. This will also need to be done in cooperation with your supervisor, since you don't know what settings he has on the router. These are instructions on how to set up a static IP http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm |
