Slow download speed after update

I have been using limewire for about 6 months and recently updated to the new version, since then I have been struggling with download speeds of between 0-4 KB/s whereas on the older version I gto upto 20-25KB/s.
I have 5 green bars on connection and no brick wall in front of the globe, my os is windows xp, I have sygate firewall, free space of 52.24GB 512ram,a modem connection with talktalk and am using computer at home.
If anybody can help me I'd be most grateful.

What version of Java are you using (in LW go help > about LW & you'll see)?
Are you sharing a connection with other computers?
How do you have your modem set up (UPnP enabled, port forwarding or neither)? What's the brand & model of the modem?

You could try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's closed. Points 2 & 3 below will explain how
Fixes for LimeWire

TalkTalk are known to shape bandwidth during certain hours, which will mean a drop in speed. I guess it's possible that they've increased their traffic shaping. Have a look through this thread

Have you tried other p2p apps & are they really slow too? Have you tried going back to the older version of LW to see if speed picks up again?

Hi Birdy
I have Java 1.5.0_07, I am not sharing my computer and my modem is a speedtouch 330 ADSL, I am unsure of what UPnP and port forwarding is. I have deleted the L/W preferences and tried downloadind the magnetmix video, this downloaded at between 1-2 KB/s. Still slow download speed, any other ideas would be gratefully received.
