today my search results started giving me 80-90% garbage files, and very few good ones to d-load from. does anyone know why this is happening?

The network is currently swamped with bad files; most likely by people trying to undermine the P2P file sharing networks.
Try searching your files under "All Types" and try to use the Junk filter and the key word filter to reduce the amount of bad files showing up in the searches.
