Upload Problems - People cant findmy files

I put a 1.3 Gig extension .rar files in my shared folder and sent out emails to my friends to download it.

To my surprise they were or unable to find the file or one person that has found it downloaded the file and its size was 34kb. ?!?

Please help me because this research information is important for me to get to my friends and I cant send via cd dvd or mail.

My email is brazilrealestate or user name brazilrealestate on skype or make posts directly here.

I really appreciate you guys and Im glued to the screen trying to figure this out, its really great to have forums like this one which are better than any tech support on the planet.Much more comfortable talking to peers anyways.

Thanks everyone
Marty

You could try to get them to direct connect to you, but to be able to do this you will have to make sure that none of you are behind a firewall...

Do you have a firewall in front of the globe in LW ? if you do, that is more than likely the reason that they cant find your file...

Also could you please edit out your email addy, you don't want some wacko getting hold of it and spamming you with all sorts of rubbish..It's against the forum rules to post them...:rolleyes_2:
Cheers

turn yur firewall off?

dunno about anyone else here, but I feel butt naked without a firewall....no way Jose, my wall is always up!

wondering why October 7th, 2006 01:10 PM

Just configure your firewall to allow LW...But if you have a built in Nat firewall in your modem/Router you will have to either enable your UPnP or forward a Port...:rolleyes_2:

Select Direct connect and it will show your Ip.... you enter your friends and they enter yours...

It sounds like you will have to forward a Port, whats the name and model number of your modem ??

brazilrealestate October 7th, 2006 02:31 PM

modem speedstream 4200 pppoe modem and router

wondering why October 7th, 2006 03:06 PM

You deffinatley have a built in firewall, but unfortunatley your model is not listed on the Port Forwarding site....
http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm

I searched for your modem with google and came up with some interesting info, my advice would be to do the same and search the user manual as it has the instructions on Port Forwarding there...:rolleyes_2:

brazilrealestate October 7th, 2006 03:46 PM

Dear Wondering

I found instructions in the manual to go to their site and what to do....but i dont know what i have to configure and how ?

brazilrealestate October 7th, 2006 05:43 PM

and if i do configure the modem and all of those things am i going to be open to attacks???

Peerless October 7th, 2006 05:58 PM

no....correct configuration of your modem and such does not open you to attacks...

and on that subject download PeerGuardian2, install it, update it, and always use it when on the gnutella network...

http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

Lord of the Rings October 7th, 2006 06:01 PM

Enable UPnP. See if UPnP works ok. That means your NAT firewall is still active but it allows programs such as LimeWire to communicate directly with this device to open the port it needs at the time.

Can you create a magnet link of the file & send it to me via personal message? Click on my username to send message. To create a magnet link, see How to use Magnet Links & Direct Connect

BTW do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW? If yes, that means the NAT firewall is probably the problem. And that's why nobody can direct connect to you. So try enabling UPnP.

brazilrealestate October 7th, 2006 08:52 PM

Messing with the proxies and socks can that also prevent people downloading from me?

I want to watch lost on abc.com and its only allowed for USA ips so i downloaded CHARON and tweaked it a little to watch the episodes not done with it yet
but tell me can that effect it in any way???

Im in Brazil and not going back to Chicago untill next year !!!

Peerless October 7th, 2006 09:58 PM

I did a quick google search for charon and got no results that give me a clue as to what you are using...

but, most proxie(services)s are for http only, and that does not affect your use of the gnutella network...the use of SOCKS proxies would, but those are configured in your advanced settings in LW...

wondering why October 8th, 2006 01:24 AM

Sorry brazilrealestate, I didn't mean to desert you I went offline...:rolleyes_2:

Check this link out and see if it is simialr to your model, the instructions on how to log into your modem/router are all there and how to set up a static IP also...Set your Port Numbers as it suggests (I personally use 12020) and make sure you enter that number into both the limewire port and the listen port...

Here is the link....
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...0/Limewire.htm

And another...
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...4/Limewire.htm

See if they are similar to yours....

brazilrealestate October 8th, 2006 03:55 PM

I Am Calling The Modem Company Monday Afternoon.....static Ip Is That The One Where I Can Reflect Different Ip Address Rather Than My Own.
Example: Im From Chicago And Love To Watch Lost But Am In Brazil
I Change The Proxies And I Think The Sock Proxy Also To Fool The Abc.com Site Into Thinking Im In Usa And Be Able To Watch The Episodes.

Is That Static Ip? And Does It Effect Limewire Up/downloads ?

Also Ive Heard Its Safer Against Hackers ?

Will Be Checking This Forum Everyday

Thanks For All The Tips Ideas And Things Im Learning From You Guys ! ! !

brazilrealestate October 8th, 2006 03:59 PM

THEY ARE NOT SIMILAR
MINE USES BOTH ETHERNET AND LAN (USB) DONT KNOW WHY

THE LINKS ARE NOT FOR MY MODEM

BUT THANKS ANYWAYS DEAR

LET ME SEE WHAT THE MODEM COMPANY SAYS OK:idea:

PEERLESS :::

i DOWNLOAD THE PEERGUARDIAN BUT IT REQUIRES WINDOWS NT 5.2. MINE IS 5.1 ???

WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO COMPLICATED AND TIME CONSUMING
I HAVE TO WORK SLEEP AND PLAY WITH MY DAUGHTER HEHEHEHE

Peerless October 8th, 2006 05:04 PM

w00t?

never heard of that limitation before with PG2

are you sure you went to the website I linked you to?

you need to download the pg2-nt.exe version...dunno about any nt 5.2 (unless that's a beta version of Vista), as XP is definitely NT 5.1, and PG2 works marvelously on my machine

brazilrealestate October 8th, 2006 07:14 PM

PEERLESS :::
Will try to download the exact file somewhere else ok will see what happens

How does this program help???

Its not going to make more limitations is it?

brazilrealestate October 9th, 2006 07:43 AM

I have full access now toconfiguration of my modem.

What do I need to do now?

Haven't got time right now to get into too many details, but can help you with your screenshot problem. Download this tool

http://www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm

Very easy to use. Save the screenshots as .gif and set colors to 16 in advanced before saving. There is a limit on how big the attachments can be.

Then in your reply screen press manage attachments and then browse to the file containing your screenshot. Press upload, and then close the window. You can attach several files at once, but the max. file size for all is 100 KB

Do you see:

Firewall, NAT, Virtual server or similar anywhere in the options ?

If you aren't sure sure about something then take a screen shot and attach it here.

BTW you should set up a static IP as well. You can find instructions on how to do that at www.portforward.com

Here are some examples of what it can look like. (Taken from my router). Your will probably not look like this. This is more to get the general idea of what to expect.

NAT Options (Do not use DMZ. It will leave your system vulnerable to attack)

clickity click clack (the sound of my long guitarist's fingernail rolling upon my keyboard tray)....:rifle:

Peerless October 9th, 2006 03:31 PM

so you say you got an error message re: NT 5.2...wtf????????

you know, I actually just spent the time to download the exact same file I linked you to, uninstall the one on my machine, and then install the one I downloaded...

NO FVCKING ERROR MESSAGE

please leave this forum (taking your desire to spam the network with your worthless attempts at free advertisement), and don't come back...or else

Peerless October 9th, 2006 05:09 PM

fret?

c'mon, you've been around here long enuf to know when I fret (which I rarely do)...

the clickity click clack is just my way of showing the smell (which I noticed early on) has become a stench...and also to show annoyance at knowing I just had to do the uninstall, install to prove the setch...

and its gonna be enjoyable to use Orcrist on this sucker :yikes:

Peerless October 9th, 2006 05:48 PM

tsk tsk tsk...

guitarists have short fingernails on their fretting hand, and if they choose for finger picking long fingernails on that hand...

being right handed, I strum/pick with my right hand, and that's where my long fingernails reside...my left hand, for fretting, has the nails cut to the quick...

sorry, but your play on words was wrong (hence it went right over my head)

Sleepless October 10th, 2006 08:33 AM

@ Peerless and Hobo

Guitar lessons aside. There is really nothing wrong with someone making a file available on the Gnutella Network advertising real estate. As long as that file doesn't start popping up in searches unrelated to the search phrase.

I actually think it's great when people find other uses for the Network apart from sharing copyright works. Gives it a bit more credibility

Lord of the Rings October 10th, 2006 08:52 AM

And what about their username? It's a ploy. Google their username. I came up with some good links that basically says what he is all about. Ask peerless for a copy of them. I don't play guitar. But I can beat the piano hammers, skins or pied piper. Same FX can be duplicated or simulated. lol :D

Their genuinity toward an answer to their questions seems fake. They haven't employed the obvious answers or suggestions when made or make untrue excuses or ignore.

For a start we don't take kindly to advertising through signatures, attachments, usernames, etc.

Sleepless October 10th, 2006 11:26 AM

If this was meant for spamming then I can only say  :cheesy:

Have a feeling that they won't get many dea*ls using this method, neither here or on the Gnutella network. Did you see their pricerange

If they really want to spam, then maybe they should find a forum that is not about free stuff.

They will soon find that this is wasted bandwidth, resources etc etc. :D

I do see your point though.

Peerless October 10th, 2006 03:28 PM

not really concerned per se with the spam issue, but I am rather tiffed at this jerkwad re: the supposed error from the install of PG2...and a few of the other posts are...well...smell of some a$$hole just trying to make problems with imaginary scenarios...the totality of the whole issue is where my response comes from...kinda like this jerkwad was making up stuff to simply bump the thread back up on the new posts page....doh..and here I just did the same thing, but now its totally negative...so there mr/ms/it brazilrealestate...may you fry in he!l
