![]() my ISP has sent me 2 emails telling me that ive been host to way too many uploads in (quote: "in excess of 1500 to over 400 locations since midnight") and taking up too much bandwidth. i checked my files, and it showed that i have had 2 uplaods total since ive had limewire, + i only have around 200 files. apparently this is bad enough hes threatening to cut me off... whats the cause of this? and if it is ultrapeer, id like to know what that is. so semi off topic, wtf is ultrapeer? |

![]() Pretty tough that they observe your bandwidth usage so closely.. As for your question about Ultrapeers, guess you just take a read here and somemore with the links included there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnutella If you want to stop being an ultrapeer go to LW>Tools>Options>Speed and mark the appropriate square allowing you to do so. ![]()

![]() I'm curious as to how you know how many uploads you have made, or am I correct in thinking this is ONLY in one session, afaik you cannot tell what you have uploaded in the past once Limewire is closed. How long HAVE you had limewire? Are you sure the mails are from your isp? |

![]() Junior Member Aabattery Is it possible that your PC is powerful enough to act as an ultrapeer, if so it may be possible that your PC is acting as a conduit for others on the network (LOTR can you confirm if this is possible). Or it could be that you have a virus/worm that is uploading rubbish onto the network (this is unlikely but a faint possibility). As for tracking your online activities, I don't know where you are in the world but all ISPs in the EU must now keep a record, for at least 2 years, of their customers activities. And, I guess, all ISPs will have some sort of monitoring software/equipment to show them who is making excessive use of their facilities. UK Bob |
