.mpg is basically already in vcd format..it just has to be burned as a VCD, or SVCD...

check out this place, it has a lot of specific info on that subject: http://www.videohelp.com/

I used to be very familiar with that subject, but once Nero7 came out and made burning DVDs from .avi files so easy, I stopped dealing with VCD format

Default Vcd?

We basically burn to VCD because we do not have a DVD burner, but as I understand Nero 7 will burn most files to DVD or VCD?
Thanks

yes, nero will make vcds and svcds (along with its awesome ability to convert and burn .avi files to DVD)

vcd = mpg1
svcd = mpg2

as noted, I used to burn plenty of SVCDs (much better kwality than VCD), but no longer do so...of course, check to make sure your DVD player will support SVCD before bothering to burn one...
