ok so i did a test thing on my download speed and it was something like 53million bits or whatever lol. i'm using i dsl netgear router with 8 meg broadband. if i change my speed to t3 or higher i'll get faster downloads?

oh and i really aint sure what i did. i saw a link that checked what version of java i have, tested it and now the java icon is showing and my speed has been much improved. oh and limewire hasn't shut itself down like it used to. probably just coincidense i reckon

erm i think its all sorted. i gave up trying to set a static ip and changing my router settings to allow limewire through its firewall. ended up just changing the listening port to 15618 i think it was and now the brick wall is gone. the java thing i think i understand. i changed my explorer to firefox 2.0 and since then the java icon vanished. i've just deleted and reinstalled it

We just finished discussing your situation and Hobo found this about AOL...

That is more than likely why your speeds fluctuate so much....

ok i called them and they agreed it could be a pi problem. they wont do anything about it till friday tho as it has only been 12 days since i upgraded and it takes 14 to let the line settle and so on. he said that after that time they'll be able to find out if my line really is capable of 8 meg speeds. after that he'll be able to sort it all out. hurry up friday. i better call them before i get drunk tho lol
