My Limewire Will Not Download Anything

I'm not sure when this problem started but all of a sudden Limewire will connect but will not download anyting. Instead of downloading, the words, "awaiting sources" or "need more sources appears". I've tried lots of things and I know how to configure my firewall and I am also using a linksys wireless router. I am using Windows xP with 100g ram 1g memory, A brick sometimes apears in my limewire window. Can someone please help

Lord of the Rings November 30th, 2006 02:43 PM

1. Be sure UPnP is enabled on your Linksys device: See upnp section here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

2. Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

3. Have you checked with Comcast to see if either (a) you have gone over your monthly limit, (b) speak with a technician & find out if they are p2p filtering you.

help

Eveything was working great and now I cant download anything. I have unstalled and re-installed, still cant downlaod music. Can anyone help?

Lord of the Rings November 30th, 2006 05:23 PM

Check the option settings here License requirement (click on link). And go to LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Downloads & check that the slots is 1 or larger. Also be aware of Beware of Fake files in search results

limeinjax December 2nd, 2006 09:32 AM

I tried those options but it still will not download. It literally will not download. I have full bars but no downloading

Lord of the Rings December 2nd, 2006 09:55 AM

But they go into your downld window right? But just won't start downlding. Stay connecting for ages & then need more sources. If that's correct then ... http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showpo...70&postcount=4 The files you're trying to downld may well be fakes. Are you able to downld a magnet link from here http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

limeinjax December 2nd, 2006 06:53 PM

I understand what you are saying but any type of file I try to download gives me problems. I have been using limewire for a year now and ever since I upgraded to the latest version I have been having trouble. The files I am downloading are legitimate. Could you please offer further assistance. I tried port fowarding but I still have the same problem.

Lord of the Rings December 3rd, 2006 07:15 AM

Go back to the old version then & see if you have the same problems. The fake files syndrome is reasonably recent. Do you use bitzi to check the files are true files?

dancski December 3rd, 2006 09:23 AM

Can't download, please help!

Literally, I get nothing. Uninstalled and re-installed, everything connected. I click on a file and nothing, I mean NOTHING happens. I've checked firewall, and read through these forums to try to find a solution on my own but nobody has reported "nothing" (no error messages, no pop-ups, etc.) I'm getting thorough searchs, but absoultely no response when I click "download". Please help! Thank you!!

dancski December 3rd, 2006 09:46 AM

Okay, I poked around more in these forums and tried the "revert to default" and "slots is 1 or larger" solutions, then went back and tried to download and ureeka!, it's working. Any idea, though, why my "Library" got cleared out? I found the files within my c/drive, but still curious why the library took a dive? Any ideas?

jayb7700 December 3rd, 2006 03:23 PM

OK dancski here's the likely deal ... if you had originally had your library time limit of days to keep unfinished files at a time of more than 7 days, when you reverted to default it reset that back to the 7 day limit and the files were purged. That seems to be one of the biggest problems with using the "revert to default" feature. Anything older than 7 days goes bye-bye. In the future you can avoid that by first moving your unfinished files to another location unrelated to limewire and then and only then use the "revert to default" option in the tools.

To save you a little bit of time with dealing with comcast, comcast's basic hi-speed internet allows for a maximum of 4MB in both upload and download speeds. They do not limit p2p applications or put a squeeze on the bandwidth when you're using p2p programs. There is also no monthly limit as to how much you can download or upload. Hopefully this will save you an hour or two in dealing with the fine folks at comcast .. I spent about 2 hours with the tech people on the phone last week while they tried to find answers to those relatively simple questions. Good help is hard to find apparently.

limeinjax December 7th, 2006 03:06 PM

I tried to download previous versions of limewire but my limewire still will not download. Do you think it has anything with the port fowarding I attempted?

Lord of the Rings December 7th, 2006 03:15 PM

Possibly. Actually I didn't realise you port forwarded. The most important step is the 1st step & that's often where people make mistakes; ie: setting up a static ip. Without a static ip set up "before" the port forwarding, then the entire process was a waste of time. I've heard it's also better to do a separate port forward for each of TCP & UDP, as compared to doing one for both in a single port forward. Two options to get passed the linksys nat firewall is to either enable UPnP or port forward. (port forwarding instructions here http://portforward.com/routers.htm ) Else see the connection problems link above under UPnP section about how to enable UPnP. I don't know how good your model is re: UPnP

But before you do this, try this ... make a note of any important settings in your options & then delete your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) Next time you open LW you will need to reset all your option settings such as days to keep incomplete files to a large number. Also under advanced>firewall settings set it to manual port forward or UPnP whichever you set your linksys for.

See how the connection goes, & then try downlding a magnet link from here http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml & tell us what happens. ;)

hi people, im new to this, i have the same problem as above, all of a sudden mine has stopped downloading, done nothing different, so under advice i uninstalled and installed it again, and same thing....i put in artist and song, the bar goes green as if its found loads of this song but nothing is there, kids are going mad lol helppppp

birdy September 18th, 2008 01:09 AM

Do you mean that your LW doesn't show any search results??

Is your LW connected properly (all green/blue connection bars)? If LW's connected, try the fixes below.

1. In LW go tools > options > searching > basic & check whether the 'show license warning' box is ticked. If it's ticked , untick it > Apply > ok...see if that makes any difference.

2. Problems with the search

3. Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within LW's options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things to the way you like them.
Vista users: LimeWire Pref Folder in Vista

If LW's not connected, try the fixes here.
If LW Will Not Connect
If nothing there helps, post back with your system details.
