Default Linksys Router Failure

Greetings all,

Anyone using a WRT54GS that has had this particular problem, it will drop/lose its IP addy while using LM ? Downloads and Searchs cease, a ping of the router at its assigned IP, its not there (does not seem to go to any known IP). Power down WRT54GS, and bring it back up and works fine.

Using XP, wired to WRT54GS.
LM 4.12.6 Pro + Java 1.5.0_09.
Router using UPnP, Port 43342
Static IP

WRT54GS only has this problem with this version of LM as well as the previous version of LM Pro. Works flawlessly with other W/L and wired equipment, several VPN connections have never been a problem, few games also work as well, problem free. This router is not the immediate connection to my DSL modem, there is another Linksys Router it passes though.

Any information really appriciated . . . . .

AFAIK that model has firmware problems. It's basically a "lemon". Though other linksys devices are very good. Check under the UPnP section here Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link) as there's a reference to fixing the firmware. It's a krak so to speak so do it at your own risk if you consider it. Also, port forwarding for this model tends to work better than upnp.

Thumbs up Thanks for the information. . . .

Not exactly what I was hoping to hear, but facts are facts. Have heard that this unit has its 'Undocumented Features', but am absolutly a newbie regarding routers/switches. Picked LinkSys, cause of its ease of setup and complete help files.

Have to read up on the 'Krack', and find out if its supporting my version, sounds like a firmware flash actually, and my first inclination is can I revert things back to OEM condition, should this Krack not work..

Before that I think I will revise the port forwarding, as well as change to a different port number. Things of this magnitude are always greeted with a scope of doom, on my part. . . . As over the years I have made a few doorstops this way.

Have a good holidays and Thanks again ! ! !
Cheers

Also on the link I gave above, at the bottom of the page is a link or few about forums or sites. This one near the bottom 'game spyarcade' might have some tips.
