Cant download

Hi,
I am running LW-Basic and i am having a few problems downloading. i am happy to pay to go to LW-Pro but i need to know that these problems will be fixed before i do.....

i do not have an active firewall now, as my subscription has run out, but LW sometimes tells me i am behind a firewall, and sometimes it doesnt!!!

if it says i AM, i cannot get any search results at all, if it says i am NOT i can search but i get download speeds of <1kb !!!

I used to be ok until about 1 month ago. can anyone help? (I have plenty of free space & loads of RAM etc, running Windows XP home)

Manyu Thanks

HI Simon.
"I am running LW-Basic and i am having a few problems downloading"

What version of L/W are you using ?
What Firewall was you using,? Have you uninstalled it alltogether ?
Windows XP Home,Has its own built in Firewall
Go to, START / Control Pannel / Security Centre / Windows Firewall ,tick the
box [ON] Then press Exeptions, Give LimeWire full access.
Do that first then get back to me.:Smilywais:
Peace.

SimonD & animate,
If your firewall icon's coming & going it may be a software firewall or an internal firewall within a modem/router. Can you both answer the questions in the link below (sorry for any repeats)?
System details - help us to help you

animate,
Try using your computer's search to look for some of the missing file names. Unless you've deleted them from the LW library by mistake, they should be around somewhere:wink:

Lord of the Rings December 2nd, 2006 09:13 AM

Plusnet are not such a great bunch. See them listed here ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire. They might have noticed you using a lot of bandwidth & then applied p2p bandwidth shapers / port blockers.

BTW if you're using XP, then you will have the XP firewall. Configure it here Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Then see if the brick wall disappears. Also after that, try downlding a magnet link & tell us what happens in regards to connecting & speed http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

Link, That lists your ISP as one of the P2P shapers.
Heres the link.
Peace.
