Default low download speed

I've been Limewire user for about 2 months. It was very good at the beggining(download speed around 40 to 50 KB/S), but after 6 weeks the thing got too slow. I hardly get speeds over 2 to 4 KB/S now. I1ve not changed my internet access and anything else. I've read some previous posts in this forum but none helped me. I use windows XP and cable connection 1 mega.
Thanks for your help.

Download a file from here & see what speed you get
http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

Try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's closed. See points 2 & 3 below for instructions:wink:
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill your settings within options, you'll have to go back through & reset things later.

Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue globe)?
How many green connection bars do you see?
Who is your ISP?

The brick wall means that LW's detected a firewall. It could be a software firewall or it could be from within a modem/router.

Have a look here for lots of info about firewall probs
Connection problems? Check here first!

If you have the same problem as succi, did you try the things that I suggested?? What happened?

You might also have to give some info

cleburneslim,
Download a file from the magnetmix link in post #2 & see what speed you get.
Who is your ISP?

succi,
What happened when you downloaded a magnetmix file...fast or slow?
Did you delete the preferences folder?
If the magnetmix files download slowly, it could be that your ISP has started throttling p2p? I had a look on Google & it looks that way (I can't read Portuguese so there's a bit lost in translation)

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=pt&u=http://www.forumpcs.com.br/viewtopic.php%3Ft%3D142807&sa=X&oi=translate&resnu m=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dvirtua%2Bmega%2Bflash%2B%2Bp2p%26hl%3 Den%26lr%3D%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-USfficial_s%26hs%3D7C3%26sa%3DG

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=pt&u=http://www.marfisa.org/artigos/p2p_virtua.html&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=3&ct=resu lt&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dvirtua%2Bmega%2Bflash%2B%2Bp2p%26hl%3 Den%26lr%3D%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-USfficial_s%26hs%3D7C3%26sa%3DG

If you use Google to look for virtua mega flash - p2p you'll find more info.
You could try changing to a higher port (eg 64049) but honestly, I don't know if that would help. If you want to try, in LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. On this page, change LW's listening port & port forwarded if you've set up port forwarding in your router. Change any port numbers allowed through a software firewall also. All port numbers have to be the same!

Default high speed on magnetmix

Birdy,

I´ve downloaded a file from magnetmix and the speed was incredible 200KB/S!
Any thoughts about why songs come so slow?
I´ve already deleted the folders you suggested and it did no good. As a matter of fact i´ve done everything you told me to...
I got surprised about the speed of the download above.
I´ll try to do the search on google you wrote about.
I hope i could help you help me after this download on magnetmix - the speed was amazing. I think that shows the problem is not on my computer, doesn´t it?
Thanks again for helping, man!

Hi !
Sorry for my english but it's not my native language. I have a big problem with limewire. I can't download files faster than 8 ko/s although I have a high speed connection (100 Mbits/s). I don't have a firewall icon and my Gnutella icon is completely green... I have downloaded a file from magnetmix and the speed average was... close to 1 ks/s...
What can I do ?
Many thanks for your reply !

Default Virtua Problems

Birdy,

Just read the links on virtua megaflesh you posted. It seems to have a big problem on P2P connections...
Maybe that´s the point.
