Something is definitely wrong

Alright I've been a limewire user for a long long time..I have no problem with my limewire, connection everything has always worked fine for me. My problem is I bought my sister an MP3 player for christmas, we installed limewire for her to download and upload her songs, etc. The problem is that although she does have a firewall from norton and I have turned it off, LimeWire is connected, but whenever we search for any songs by any artists, we get no search results at all. I know that when you arent always connected it will do that, but Im definitely sure she's connected, what Im wondering is, is that firewall still causing problems, or is there another firewall I dont know about on this computer causing limewire to not correctly work.

Is there a brick wall over the globe in the bottom left of LW? If you run Windows XP, it has its own firewall. You should go to control panel...windows firewall and disable it (not recommended to have two firewalls running simultaneously).

Good Luck:idea:

Yeah, there was a brick wall in the lower left hand corner infront of a globe, I knew that meant a firewall was there so the only active firewall on was a norton, that firewall is turned off. Also, I checked the Windows XP firewall, it's not even turned on but just incase I added it to the programs allowed to run. Still, limewire has no results and the skin Im downloading won't download.

It sounds like a built in Nat firewall....
Can you give me these details please...
Make and model of modem/router
Name of ISP
Are you sharing the connection with other computers :rolleyes_2:

I have no idea anymore, I thought it was because of the windows firewall, so I went to remove it to be on the safe side and I couldn't remove it,but still in the left hand lower corner the brick wall is still there.
It's a dsl router, would that possibley have anything to do with it?
ISP:WindStream
And no, no sharing with other computers:dance:

A Nat firewall is built into the modem/router, so that just means you have to forward a port, if you could give me the exact name and model number of it, I can post you the instructions....The info should be under your modem/router...:rolleyes_2:

consumegore,
You might also want to check for a Windstream firewall, just in case. Have a look through the thread below for more info

;)

I'am also having the same problem. It used to be I could reboot my computer and Limewire would be just fine. But now I can't do anything on Limewire. No searches or anything. It's really frustrating.

birdy December 27th, 2006 05:24 PM

VonneMarie,
Try deleting LW's preferences folder when LW's closed. See points 2 & 3 below for instructions
Fixes for LimeWire

If that's no help, post your details
System details - help us to help you

VonneMarie December 27th, 2006 06:03 PM

Thank you Birdy, but it didn't work and I don't know all of my details to even post. I'm not to computer savy.

I'm screwed.

birdy December 27th, 2006 06:19 PM

Well, you're screwed if you don't let us help you.
Can't you answer any of those questions? It's up to you if you don't want to bother, but if it was me...I'd at least have a go.

VonneMarie December 27th, 2006 06:33 PM

I have Sunbelt kerio personal firewall, cable modem, Limewire 4.12.6 and windows 98.

birdy December 27th, 2006 06:53 PM

Where are you connecting from (house, apartment block, school, student accommodation, work)?
Who do you pay for your internet use (that's your ISP)?
Have a look on your modem...what's the brand and model number? Have a look underneath the modem as well.
How many green connection bars do you see in the bottom left corner of LW?
Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of the blue globe at the bottom of LW)?
What happens when you try to go here (click on the link) http://www3.limewire.com:6346
Are any other computers connecting from the same place that you are?

BUMP

VonneMarie December 27th, 2006 09:07 PM

Can anyone help me?

birdy December 27th, 2006 11:14 PM

Have you made sure that LW's allowed through the Kerio firewall?
What is the model of your modem/router?

You said you have 5 green connection bars, so the problem's probably either with your software firewall, or there could be an internal firewall within your modem/router...we can't find that out unless you give us the model.

VonneMarie December 29th, 2006 12:14 PM

Nevermind. Limewire is working just fine now and the brick wall is still infront of the globe.

Go figure.
