problems burning, please help

the films i download play perfectly on the computer but when i burn them onto disc the films play with slight jerks evey few seconds. the program i use to burn is dvd santa. please can anyone help.

Try burning at a slower speed although it's more than likely your dvd player that is causing this...Make sure you convert according to what it plays, ie PAL or NTSC...:rolleyes_2:

i have tried burning at slower speeds and when i play the disc back on the computer as well as my dvd player the film still jerks, i convert them into pal which is what it should be in. the odd film comes out ok but most jerk :bangh:

What are you using to convert with & what settings are you using? BTW have you tried playing the same disk on a friend's dvd player? Some players don't like dvd R much. And are you usin dvd- or dvd+ ? Some players are only designed to play one type.

i am using dvd santa to convert my files, i have tried both fast and slow speeds but the result is always the same, my player plays both - and + r discs. i have used dvd rs on my player and they work fine it is only the ones i convert with dvd santa.

Sounds like something may be wrong with santa...Are you using the Demo version, if you are try uninstalling it (use the uninstaller) and download it again...I'm not sure why this is happening, but like Lotr said it could be the discs your using as well....:rolleyes_2:

I don't know about how DVDSanta works, but one thing I can say is such jerkidness can be due to too high an overall conversion bitrate. That includes both audio & video combined. Make sure you use AC-3 (dolby stereo) audio, & make sure the video maximum bit rate does not go above 8 Mbps.

thanx for all your help but still having problems i think that it is the dvd santa that is not working properly, can anyone recomend a good program that they use to burn movies to disc from limewire.

You could try the trial version of Nero, it's pretty good...:rolleyes_2:

i have d/l nero 7 but when burned to disc the films have still got slight pauses every few seconds which are noticable during a movement scenes, i.e a car driving past or someone walking. am i doing something wrong or is this just how films play once burned off of limewire?

I've encountered the same problem in the past...

1. You are using cheap programs OR...
2. You are using inferior media (DVDRs)

If you are serious about converting movies, you should invest in a program that is not free. There are two programs available for about $50 that work excellent...

Tsunami MPEG Encoder (TMPGEnc) Plus 2.5
Cinema Craft Encoder (CCE) Basic

You should be able to find trial versions of these products, although there are most likely limitations on encoding.

My recommendations for media are:

Verbatim
Hitachi-Maxell
Taiyo-Yuden
Sony

DVD+R media is more widely recognized by players than DVD-R.

I also support the above recommendation of burning at low speeds. I use 1-16X media and I burn at 4X.

If you follow these recommendations, I am confident that you will solve your problem. For more advice, I would suggest looking into some video forums, i.e. Afterdawn, Doom9, etc.

Good Luck

Good points muhctekdano...I think it sounds like a hardware issue, possibly the discs like Lotr suggested earlier....
Another good brand is Imation....:rolleyes_2:
