Few Problems Since Installed Wireless, Please Help :) Hi everyone, new to forums, not new to Limewire:), yeh my problem is this: (& its only been doing this since I installed wireless) http://www.limewire.org/wiki/index.p...r_Cant_Connect It takes about 20mins to connect to the network. It gets stuck on "connecting..." sometimes when downloadin files. Athough I have managed to download loads of files, but now it gets loads and loads of "Awaiting Sources" & another problem is the firewall icon in front of the world icon. Oh & when I click on "Show Incoming Searches", I get the message (something like) "Leaf & Ultrapeer, Little or no results will display here" Well something like that, I cant remember it & It wont say it again now as I chose it to not display that message again. & No-one can upload from me. Ive spent most of the night reading through this forum & it looks really helpful:) But as im new its all over the place to me, and I dont know where everything is! Ive read through the solution on http://www.limewire.org/wiki/index.p...r_Cant_Connect & it says to look into the firewall settings, but I looked around my Nortons settings and have no idea what to change. If anyone has Nortons or knows about it please help me on this.. Also I know how annoying it is when someone new comes along and asks questions thats already been answered in a sticky or other posts loads of times, but all Im looking for is a bit of help, even if its just a link as im confused where to look on the forums. Thanks very much :thankyou: |
THis will help us System details - help us to help you (click on link) Be aware that almost all wireless devices have internal NAT firewalls. So ... question is whether your wireless setup has reliable UPnP support, if not then port forwarding may be the best solution. ;) If you're using Norton Firewall, then make sure XP firewall is turned off. These 2 tend to clash & have side effects. Also for Norton, if you install a new version of LW then you may need to reconfigure Norton. Norton seems to have that odd problem. Here's 2 links you should look through (1) Configuring Norton Internet Security, & also (2) Reconfiguring Norton Firewall |
1. OS version? XP Home. 2. What firewalls you have? Norton 2006 On / Windows Always Off 3. How much ram? 512mb 4. Hard Disk space available? 200gb 5. Connection type? wireless broadband 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Router - http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/106873 7. Where are you trying to connect from? House. 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? 4.12.10 / JRE 5 Version 10 9. Who is your ISP provider? BT 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here Yup worked fine. 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I have 2 computers both going wireless to the router. 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. New problem since wireless / had limewire for along time though and know how it works mainly:) 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interfacce. Yup. thx for the links Lord Of The Rings, I'll look through those now |
In my experience on these forums, Belkin almost always needs to be port forwarded. See instructions here Port Forwarding for the Belkin F5D8630-4 (click on link). The 1st step is vital ... setting up a static ip. |
Ok I'll try that now, I just tried everything on the other 2 help topics you linked to and none of those worked =( cheers for all your help=D |
When choosing a port for Firewall Configuration, it says to choose a port between 10000 and 60000, can this be absolutely any number between 10000 & 60000? If not & it has to be a port number then where could I find a port number?!? Cheers |
Port 6346 should be fine. And do it for both TCP & UDP. Or a separate one for each of TCP & UDP is even better. OH btw, if it works after port forwarding & you wanted to also use LW on the other computer, you'd need to do a separate port forwarding from the other computer & must use a different port to the one you used on the 1st computer. |
Thx I just did the port forwarding for TCP & a seperate one for UDP. Still a brick wall in front of the world =( I'll restart my comp, see if this makes a difference. Cheers. |
I don't know about Belkin, but some devices require rebooting to get the PF into action. |
Nope, still there & I still get the message "Your Client Is A Leaf Mode Sheilded By An Ultrapeer. Hence You Will See Few Or No Searches In The Monitor Window" when I click "Show Incoming Searches" what else can i try, thx EDIT: do you mean reboot the router yeh? |
yes ... don't know if yours has that option but some do. If you do reboot it, restart LW also. |
Just restarted Router & LW, birck wall is still there & I still get the message when I click "Show Incoming Searches" =( Really dont know what else I can do, Id like to get this sorted ASAP as I use Limewire daily. thx |
Anyone got anymore suggestions All help really appreciated, well nededed lol:D |
BMX Just one thing, you do know that BT is famous (even infamous) for their hatred of everything P2P. In other words, they’ve installed "Bandwidth Shaping" equipment on their network and actively discourage the use of P2P apps. Users have got to either find a “non anti-P2P” ISP to change to or abandon your use of all P2P apps. UK Bob |
But it worked fine when I had wired?! (With BT) It had no brick wall and uploads worked fine too. |
I'll search around the forum threads and just try evrything then. Even though it seems like I already have ... |
BMX Was it dial up or broadband wired? UK Bob |
Broadband |
In that case, the best thing to do is ask BT what is going on? |
Well its only been happening since I installed Wireless with a new Router. The router says Doubled Firewalled whatever this means lol. Ive added Limew1 TCP & Limew2 UDP sepertaely to the Virtual Servers in my Firewall settings but I still dont get the brick wall to go away :). JAVA & Limewire are both on Permit All in Nortons Settings. This is getting really annoying lol. Thx for all your help tho :D |
OK, I guess you have a built in firewall in your wireless modem/router so that means you will have to configure your built in firewall to let LW through. This means you will have to read your wireless modem/router manual to understand how you can do this or, if you don't have a manual, download it from the maker's web-site. Either way, you have a lot of reading and learning to catch up on. Shark Chum Bob |
O I thought I was configiring the Routers Firewall on the "192.168.2.1" site but yeh I have a massive pdf manual lol I'll read that then. Oh & btw when you said dial up or broadband, I had both, as in I dialed up to broadband. But it wasnt 56k modem or pay as you go, & it also wasnt an always connection.. thx |
Ok I just disabled my Router Firewall & the NAT Firewall (Which automatically restarted my router) (& I Disabled Nortons), then restarted Limewire & I still get the dam brick wall. I really dont know what to do now :( All help NEEDED lol |
Cant anyone think of any other ideas, I wont give up on this until its solved :) |
The "brick wall" is not always a bad thing, Limewire does configure itself to run behind a firewall, mine is up all the time, even when I turn my firewall off the "wall" is still there, but it makes no difference as my d/load speeds are always consistent, 75-140kbps (depending on amount of hosts etc) |
But I notice a big change between how it used to be and now. Say if I downloaded 500 songs at once, It used to get them all apart from literally one or two. But now it only get about 150, leavng 350 Need More sources, & Awaiting Sources & Mainly Connecting. |
yes well I think everyone has noticed this change, do not forget that possibly 40-50% of the files you think you are downloading are actually fake/spam/viruses so think yourself lucky that you get 150 of the d/loads you start!! |
The ones that never connect are invariably fake btw |
Hmmm, Oh well, i'll sort it out one day, I know theres still something wrong with it:( |
