so if my speed test came up with download-2393 kbs...how fast or at what speed should most of my downloads be? im only getting about 25-30 kbs on average.

birdy February 12th, 2007 05:45 PM

Divide your speed in kb/s by 8 to get KB/s, take off say 15% for overheads...theoretically a download speed of about 255 KB/s. But it's not as simple as that. Your download speed depends upon your speed & also the upload speed of the host(s) you're downloading from, how many hosts you're downloading from, how many upload slots they have open etc etc.

Then there are people whose ISPs throttle their bandwidth...so these people may never see a fast download.

Considering that you've told us nothing except your speed test result, it's a bit hard to guess whether the speeds you're seeing are reasonable for you or not.
