Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? NO First, I want to be a polite forum user, so I have been on the forum for 3 days trying various speed tweeks provided by the forum users, I have been unsuccesful. My download speeds suck!!! I am currently trying to download 2 movies, and they are downloading at arround 30 KB/s. They are downloading from users on t1 or t3 lines. I have my presets set to download from cable or higher. I followed a link from another post to a speed test, my test results were 10928 KBPS Download, and 344 KBPS upload. I had a hell of a time view the page though, I think that the shield firewall was preventing me from viewing it, but once I disabled it I could view the page. Oh 1 of my movies is downloading from 1 person, and the other from 10. File sizes are 700MB or bigger. I am very frustrated, but I know you can help. Thanks in advance, and let me know if you need anymore details than that.:bangh: |

is there no hope for me??? I posted 3 days ago, and no help. |
The forum's been down for a day so nobody could log in:blink: Update your Java. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your old version of Java before you install the new one. http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp Was your download speed ever good? Download a file from here & see what speeds you get http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml |
Birdy, When I click on the link to magnetmix and try to download, explorer pops up a screen that says: The webpage cannot be displayed Most likely cause: Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed. What you can try: Search online for a program you can use to view this web content. Retype the address. Go back to the previous page. What Program do I need to be able to download from there? Also I have updated my Java. I did a speed test at speedtest.com, and it said my Download Speed was 10928 KBPS. That's good right? Also I just noticed, whenI download Music my spedd jumps way up. I downloaded a song at 180+ KBPS. Why?? |
I don't know why:) Maybe the hosts you're downloading from have heaps of upload slots open & so you're only getting a tiny bit of their bandwidth? Maybe they're not really T1 or T3...people sometimes set their LW's speed to higher than it really is. If you're only downloading from a single host, things will be slower than if you were downloading from multiple hosts. Search for the movies again, find the ones you're downloading. Right click the file > search more > get more results...see if you can speed things up with a couple more hosts. If you can download a song at 180 KB/s then at least you know you're capable of downloading at a decent speed. Those magnetmix files are just a bit of a test, often they'll download really slowly if an ISP is throttling bandwidth. Did you disable The Shield when you tried to view the magnetmix page? Try another browser if you like, but it's probably not worth it if you know that you can achieve good speeds. |
I swear I don't know what the problem is, it only happens when I download movies. I am currently downloading from 10 hosts, and I can only pull 89 KPBS from them. To me that is very slow. I should be able to pull way more from 10 different sources, wouldn't you think?? |
what is a good download speed by the way?? |
indianink Looking back at the first post you say, "downloading from users on t1 or t3 lines. I have my presets set to download from cable or higher." Would that not limit you, with less speed, from less hosts ?. Peace. |

Look at the 'Monitor' tab. What speeds are you uploading files at? My guess is not more than 5 kB/s. Why is this? My guess is that Limewire divides your bandwidth among your allocated upload slots. So, if you are downloading from 10 others with similar connections, you will not achieve >50 kB/s. Apparently a few of those 10 hosts have connections slightly better than yours, or perhaps they have only a few upload slots. I am guessing somewhat here, so take this with a grain of salt. By the way, Limewire is the fastest program that I've found to download movies from. I use other programs very infrequently. Good Luck  |
