Can't play downloaded video files
 

I have limewire pro and I'm using Windows Vista on a brand new laptop.
I am able to download music just fine, but when it comes to downloading movies, unless it's a .avi file they will not play. I try using wmp and get an error message, I downloaded divx and it will not play any movies not even the ones that wmp will play. I have download other codecs and still nothing. I know the files work because I've downloaded it on my last computer which was running XP. Any suggestions?????
Also I notice that when I search for files in Vista, the program that is posted next to the name of the files aren't the same as they were on XP, is that an operating system deal or could that be the problem with me being able to play the movie files.

Any answers will help, sorry if it's a post already answered, i did search but couldn't find anything.

Try VLC media player

I assume you're trying to play mpeg files? They're the only other type of video file that I would trust.
