wayyy slow downloads!!! pleeeease help!!!!
 
when i had limewire on my mac before, the downloads would go at about 30 kb/s. now i bought a brand new pc that is much much faster and the downloads only go about 7 or 8 kb/s! i have the same exact internet and modem still and everything. what is wrong????

1. OS version? windows vista
2. What firewalls you have? the norton protection center that comes with the computer
3. How much ram? 2 GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 171 GB
5. Connection type? i think its cable?? not sure but its sudden link
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? touchtone telephony modem. dont know the model number
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? my house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? limewire- 4.12.11 java 1.6.0 oem
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? sudden link high speed internet
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? it said Your test worked!
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? no
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. new problem with experienced user. had it on my old computer and worked great.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? no

If you're using Norton does it have it's firewall active? Remember MS comes with its own firewall so you're best only using one of them. Having 2 will cause them to clash & result in less security not more. Most firewall companies will tell you the same thing. MS did also have a page that said the same thing.
Other than that, download speeds are generally dependent upon sources. So searching new sources helps using the search function.

I don't know much if anything about Vista. But I do know with Xp their SP update actually resulted in many less simultaneous connections. There is a 3rd party patch to fix that. I don't know about Vista or whether it has same problem.
