I have just started with LimeWire but am disappointed in the sound quality of my downloads. Very few of them are worth listening to - in fact, most of them sound more like someone singing/speaking through a drainpipe! Is this common?
What can I do about it? I use Winxp pro and am on cable modem.

How many players have you tried playing the music through. Some players can handle some files better than others. Also check your cd's play ok on your computer.

Thanks ContraB,

actually I only tried the player controls that turned up in my 'tray'. That is the right hand corner of my toolbar.

I play a lot of opera (from CD's and streaming sources)while I am on the computer and have no difficulty with sound, also I play Rise of Nations with good clarity.

I will search my system for ALL players and, if more than one, will see what differences there are.

One other thing, being new to Limewire I have not yet learned my way around it - I noted this a.m. when I thought I would check to: a) play some of the poor selections over again, and b) to see if the slower downloads had completed, NOTHING was showing at all on the opening page. Not the ones that had 'completed' or the ones that were uncomplete. Does this mean that I have lost them?

I believe your downloads will disappear from the download window if you do not properly close Limewire, i.e. if you turn off your computer without closing Limewire completely. To finish your incomplete downloads, open the Library tab and go to the incomplete folder. Right-click on your partial files to restart them (I think you go advanced...search for more sources...).

Do the songs you're downloading play better or worse depending on the bitrate? The higher the bitrate, the better they should sound, but not always.

Good Luck

Thanks for that Dano. I think i am getting a better handle on it now.

For ContraB - you asked what 'player' I am using? Well frankly I have no idea. I am just using the controls that appear in my TaskBar tray BUT I have not been able to find out which player it is.

How would I find out what players I have and how would I change from one to the other? I know, I am as green as grass!!
