Default Users Who Share Files With Viruses

Hello...

Why does Limewire allow users to share files with viruses or spyware or other damaging files on their on their shared files???

I have been paying for Limewire Pro for almost 2 years now, and always pay the fee every 6 months or whenever it is due. Why can't limewire block the ip addresses of those who are sharing files with viruses or spyware, of course I always scan a file before I open it, and never download an exe file, but if Limewire has the ip address of a user sharing these files can't they block them?? I realize there are probably millions of people using Limewire, but there has to be a way to get rid of these creeps...

When I find one of course I block the ip address, and supposedly their ip address will not show up, but I have instances where I blocked an ip address and it showed up again when I did a search.

Is there a place to report ip addresses who are sharing files with viruses or spyware files in their files they share??? If not then maybe Limewire should embed that function in the product...

Here is one ip address I had to block because they are sharing files with either a virus or a spyware file in their zip file ip ************
It really makes me mad when people do this, and you try to chat with them, and of course they have their chat disabled, so I can do nothing about it.

I chose to pay for Limewire pro hoping to get better service than just using the free version, but if this is the way it is going to be and Limewire can't stop these people, then why pay???

If this is posted in the wrong section I apologize, I do not usually post here, just mainly read...

Thank You...

LimeWire is software that allows users to connect directly to other users'
computers, via the Gnutella network, and share files with them. It is not a
music service, we do not have any members, nor do we make any such indication, anywhere on our website.

We have no foreknowledge of, nor control over, what users decide to share over the Gnutella network, we do not place any files on the network for users to download, nor do we make any guarantee that you will find the files you are searching for.

Firewalls are not the cause of every LimeWire issue. "Need more sources" is
already addressed in our FAQ:
http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...faq.shtml#dow1

Please provide a clear, detailed description of your problem, so I can better
assist you. In addition, if you are getting an error message, you will need to
include it in your response, exactly as it appears on your screen, as well as
the exact moment at which you received the message. To learn about peer-to-peer filesharing, and the Gnutella network, please visit:

Hello Zenzele...

Thank you for replying...

I have been using Limewire for a few years now, as I said, I am using LimeWire PRO 4.12.11

Everything was working fine until I did the latest upgrade to LimeWire PRO 4.12.11, after that I would be using the program, and after about 15-30 minutes it would just all of a sudden shut down, so I read suggestions on the board as to things to do to fix the problem.

So about 2 pm est. today I did as mickjapa108
Senior Member advised here 1st post

Now when I start Limewire it will not even run long enough to allow me to choose any settings, it will not start at all now...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Thank You....

None of the suggestions given ever worked, here or on other posts, I finally got Limewire to run on my own.

Here is what I did after trying all the other suggestions here and on other posts. Before I started to do all that others were saying to do if Limewire quits after running for 15-30 Minutes I had Java 5 up to version 11, so I uninstalled all the Java installs, and installed the Java everyone is advising, I uninstalled Limewire deleted all Limewire files and all the other things I was told to do, and after doing all that I could not even get Limewire to even start up long enough to even answer the setup questions.

So finally I uninstalled all the Java files I was told to install...
Then Uninstalled Limewire, and deleted all other LimeWire files.

"If you do not know anything about the registry then don't mess with it" if you do open it and before you do anything back up the registry.

Next I went to the registry I then searched for java, and deleted any entries that had to do with any of the other installs I had made.

Then I reinstalled the Java 5 ver. 11 HERE which was installed before I was told to uninstall ALL my java installs.

Then I downloaded the Beta version of Limewire 4.13.2 "which is running right now, and has been for the past hour" The installation went as smooth as it did the 1st time I installed Limewire a few years back.

So this worked for me, BUT remember BE CAREFUL WITH THE REGISTRY, and make sure you back it up if you are going to try the steps I did, and don't get angry with me if it does not work, I am just telling everyone what worked for me....

Show me where it says to install the java version I did, or where it says deleting registry files...

For going the long way about it, it sure worked quicker than anything you guys were offering.

I worked all day with the suggestions you guys gave, which by the way were just sending people to the same link over and over, at least my fix I'll bet is easier to understand

If you want to download .exe files you may as well download from the official site or "search google". P2P .exe sharing is an easy way to spread viruses, mainly why people use it.

Tartop.Hi.
You Say,
"Show me where it says to install the java version I did, or where it says deleting registry files..."

The reason we recommend to use the most up to date java, is that hackers are
constantly finding vulnerabilities in java run-time which means, your java had
already been compromised ,causing corruption, that's why you had to reinstall.
Now!! that same vulnerability will be attacked again, thus You will need to get
JRE 6.
I would ask you to kindly refrain from telling people to alter there Registry in open forum, as most people are not able to safely make these changes.
I just wonder, how many have tried your suggestion, & Now need to reinstall
there operating system.
If you had posted your details in the first place with explanation of fault, Like we ask everywhere on these forums. I may have talked you through editing
Your registry in a private message. NOT ON OPEN FORUM. that's why you don't
see that fix everywhere. We like to help people here Not break their computers.
AND!! just to put the record straight, I have not given you personal instructions to do anything, anything you tried, was not personaly advised by me.
Peace.

Default Anger

Tartop

Something happened to your PC and that, quite understandably, made you angry and the general solutions offered did not seem to work for you but quite honestly that is no reason to take your anger out on forum members.

Remember that every forum member is an unpaid volunteer that tries to help out in their spare time, also remember that there are millions of PCs out there each with their own configuration and special facilities. Therefore, there is no way this forum can cater for all the probabilities and problems any individual PC may have, especially when users neglect to mention their own unique circumstances.

You, like most of us, have at some stage had to sort out our own problems and, like you have done, brought that bit of knowledge to the forum so that it may help someone in the future.

So instead of being angry be content that you have solved a possibly insurmountable problem and passed that knowledge on.

UK Bob
