Done it all DL speeds still poor.

OS- XP sp2
160 gb HD
1.5mb ram
realtek network card rtl8139
d-link router DL or DI 604. broadband connection 6000/384
AVG antivirus
windows defender
connecting from home
ISP-Metrocast
Test worked
DL a file from magnetmix also worked fine.
No network sharing or other p2p.
LW version 4.12.11
This is a new issue from a experienced user.
Yes I see a brickwall in front of globe.

I have done the tcpip patch, removed the .limewire folder. Installed newest version of Java, Made the changes in LW options, these forums speak of doing.
NOTHING seems to make any difference. I only spike above single digits for slight periods of time then it drops slowly to zero. Sometimes it will pick back up to single digit speeds or it will just sit there saying it's DL but no speed listed.
2-3 months ago I was DL anything off LW and my speeds were awsome.

Seems like many others who use the speed test (in another thread) my results were very close to many others. 12374kbs or 1546 b/s which is quite low when my ISP is rated for 6000/384.

Have you tried Port Forwarding, your modem/router has a built in Nat firewall....
Here are your instructions to do this (follow the static IP instruction closey as well)....

I took the router right out of the loop. The download results were the same.

What modem are you using then ??

rocknrollmachine April 2nd, 2007 10:15 PM

Motorola surboard sb4100.

Well it's not that, they don't have the Nat firewall...
Windows defender have you tried disabling that and seeing if you can get better speeds...Is that the only firewall you have ??

Windows defender and the windows xp firewall. Thats it. I have tried with them both dissabled and turned on. There is no difference.

Well the only thing left I can think of is your ISP has started to throttle your speed when it comes to p2p...

rocknrollmachine April 5th, 2007 09:32 PM

Metrocast says they are not doing such (honestly would they really say yes?) I have not found any posts stating they are.

Here's a question for you. If other people who you are trying to DL from, there ISP's throttle obviously it's going to effect the DL correct? As well as people with misconfigured firewalls correct?

When I start LW. I connect with server superfast. So I know it's not me. 5 green bars in 5-10 seconds. And far and few between, I can get a file to DL in the 25-35kbs range. But thats like one out of every 200 DL attempts.Plus DL tests from Magnetmix also always DL between 25-70kbs

I think the LW I came to know and love is gone. It's obvious the catolog of rare/vintage music is almost non existant. And whats left is on computers with throttled ISP's or misconfigured firewalls. Or altogether fakes.

The answer is yes, those peolpe that are effected by firewalls and ISP's can make a world of difference to speeds..

It gets really difficult to say why some fixes work for some and not others as everyone's setup is so different...
You have tried just about every fix that's known...

It's also the firewall that you can still see as well, that must be having an effect on your speeds...What about this realtek network card rtl8139 do you need to update the drivers..
