yes :rolleyes_2: so I m having problems again..after getting told about port forwarding and have no brick infront of the globe for a couple of hrs...it has come back again..not sure how but the wall is there...:yikes:
Does it even matter? Is that the cause of why my downloading speed is only ever around 2-5KB/s?
By the way M I even on the right forum?
Any help would be great:giggle:

System details - help us to help you Please.

Cut n paste these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. what OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista)
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) ?
8. What version,LimeWire & Java,Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
10. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first!
but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.

I have only had this computer for a week. Little Bro cleaned it up for me but when he gave it to me I couldn't access some web pages and Windows Auto Updates needed to download service pack 2. I kept delaying and limewire kept working. 6 downloads in( I don't have speakers yet) I will enter any name in the search field and it will find no matches. The connection is good too. Full bars. So I go to my office desktop and check all connections and windows updates and everything is the same. My work comp is perfect with the same updates. Only difference is Comcast(home) vs. AT&T(work). Why did it work before SP2 update but screwed now? I've tried port enabling and forwarding and nothing. Worked greta before. Tried the windows patch too. still nothing. PLEASE HELP...
System info is as submitted before. THANK YOU.

mickjapa108 April 11th, 2007 09:28 PM

russell Hi.
Can you just check this, to rule it out.
It could be the License warning thing.
Just have a look,
Go, Tools/Options/Searching/Basic, it says, "Show Licence Warning"
Un tick the box if you don't want to filter out copyright Files.

This option is enabled at setup, The choice is your decision.
Do a test to see if search results improve.
You can reverse this change at any time.

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?

Peace.

Hey Mick
thank u very much for the tips for static IP, had a good read of it and it looks really really...how shall I put this..technical?

see the thing is, now theres no brick, it comes and goes..(has feet prehaps?!) on a good day like 2day, the wall doesnt exsist...bad days...its there :yikes:

I m scared that while Im setting up a static IP Im gonna accidently set something wrong that I ll truely regrat, that will make my problem even bigger

I m a chicken....*sigh :bangh: :bangh: :bangh:

What I dont get, is that even there isnt a firewall, the download still seems slow, like 2-3KB/s, and it only has that sorta speed with downloading movies

SO, prehaps limewire is really only good for downloading music and nothing else and the firewall doesnt really matter? (<---sorry took me so long to actually speak out my question :tease: )

But either way, THANK YOU FOR PUTTING TIME ON HELPING ME, YOU'R AWESOME

<3 Jess.

Hi Jess.
Its looking like you need to ring Telecom/Xtra & ask if they have another built in
firewall, or are they shaping P2P, (Limewire traffic).
Its been my experience, You have to ask for their reply in writing, then if they are shaping, they should come clean.
Jess my friend, Its nothing to do with LimeWire, My video D/Ls run at 350 KBs
If you can confirm for me Telecom/Xtra are not guilty, I may be able to talk you through portfawarding.
Good luck.
Peace.

You Said!!

Hey mick
if you ever live in New Zealand, U d known for a fact Xtra has a very bad reputation as their broadband service isnt as quick as it should be, a lot slower than lots of other ISPs in NZ

I rang them the other day and they insisted that they dont doing any shapings, checked with few other friends that use p2p programms that r also with Xtra, the asnwer? all pretty similar

If I have the power 2day I would just change ISP coz I know thats whats really going on. and it shown on the speed test I did. The nearest server from where I live is like 6 hrs away ffs!!!

I havnt seen the brick since yesterday, maybe its gone for good maybe its not but I deleted the reference folder and reset everything, also configured back to uPnP

I just dont want any trouble and wish I was borned computer savvy

Cheers for the tippies

<3 Jess.
