For the love of Bob, help us here!

I have been reading these forums for a few hours and keep seeing the same unresolved problem all over the place; our searches are coming up blank.

I am using Comcast internet, a Toshiba laptop and Windows XP. I have been able to use LimeWire just fine in the past, but starting this week it's been hell.

I have a router and a firewall, but there are holes poked in them just for LimeWire and like I said, I have been able to use it with no problems in the past.

I have tried re-installing LimeWire, restarting the computer and tweaking endlessly with the options. Nothing is helping.

Let me explain exactly what is wrong here. When I search for something, say music, the lime turns, my bars are all solid green and the grey progress bar steadily climbs but I get no results. Nothing I put in the search comes up with a result. Hell, I'm not even getting spam/junk results.

There are no error messages that show, my connections tab reveals no problems. No matter what I search, the window is just blank.... no results. When normally I would be swamped with titles, I get nothing.

Many people seem to be having this problem and it is very frustrating because it does not seem that we are getting a clear answer as to why this is happening or what can be done to fix it. Is it an acknowledged common error that developers are working on? Is it related to the internet provider? Are we wearing the wrong color socks!??

PLEASE help us all.

There are fake / dud UltraPeers out there. If it is due to that, then close LW & reopen. Go to your Connections window & make sure you are not connected to the same U.P.'s. If yes, repeat process every 10 mins or so.
However, there is a chance it might be comcast. Somebody told me just yesterday their gnutella programs are now not getting anything & they also go thru Comcast. That person uses Shareaza.

Do you see a brick wall in front of he blue world icon at bottom of LW's interface? When you open LW, let it settle for 10 mins or so before searching. (My LW is working flawlessly.)

You could try downloading a magnet link to see if yo ucan actually download a file: http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

I am very close to launching my compter through a window!! I have followed each piece of advice and still nothing!! :bangh:

... so how do I fix it ???

jesse999 April 11th, 2007 08:08 AM

i'm not a computer genuis by no means but i have dsl and what i did to get the searches to come up is unplug my connection (the phone line) from the dsl filter that's connected to the phone jack at the wall. and i had to do it twice today to get searches to come up but it worked. i guess that's better than uninstalling and reinstalling limewire which i dont think would fix anything anyhow

jesse999 April 11th, 2007 08:09 AM

does that help

bwcbilly April 11th, 2007 08:12 AM

I'll try that ...

... and let you know, thanks

jesse999 April 11th, 2007 08:15 AM

LolaB April 11th, 2007 08:17 AM

HOLY CRAP - You're right!!

I've tried everything but that!! How simple, thanks!! You rock!! :PEACE:

bwcbilly April 11th, 2007 08:23 AM

nothing yet ..

Nope, that didn't seem to make any difference .. crap :bangh: ... I think I'm just going to leave it for a while .. I've got lots of stuff to do today and maybe if I leave it alone, it'll start on it's own later .. seems a lot of people are having the same problem .. who knows .. I'll just keep trying to search as the day goes along .. thanks anyway for trying to help me out.

LolaB April 11th, 2007 08:38 AM

All I did was shut down Limewire and unplug the internet connection, plug it back in and re-start Limewire - I can't believe it's working!!!

candycandy April 11th, 2007 08:57 AM

Same Problem

I'm having blank searches too, personally, I think it's limewire being retarded - or comcast being retarded only with limewire - my internet works fine so limewire should be able to connect fine - this is retarded - it still needs to be fixed. If I unplug my phone line, I have to reset my router like 3 times for my internet to work again - definitly not worth it. It would take like 30 minutes. I hope they fix it eventually - does anybody have a different progam besides limewire they would recommend - since they don't want to fix this problem ??

jesse999 April 11th, 2007 09:21 AM

yeah well whatever you get dont get morpheus. i downloaded their program yesterday before i figured out how to get the searches back up on limewire. and they have so many damn popups. my spyware program was going off like crazy trying to block all the popups and when you try to download a file they redirect you to a web page so you can purchase one. screw all that. i uninstalled it immediately.

thank you

jesse999 April 11th, 2007 09:36 AM

and what the hell is a router. i dont think i have one of those. Does that have to do with cable or what?

nedfit April 11th, 2007 10:27 AM

I think I have the solution.

I was having the same 0 search results. I went to the "Connections" tab to make sure I had connections and I noticed that all the connections had almost the same number. I highlighed the connections and hit the remove button until they all went away and I got new ones. To make sure they were good I browsed them. Looks like someone is trying to sabatage us with some kind of bogus ultrapeers.

jesse999 April 11th, 2007 10:29 AM

so what happened

nedfit April 11th, 2007 10:32 AM

works fine now

jhi April 11th, 2007 10:45 AM

I was having this exact issue. I tried reinstalling, turning off the router and rebooting (I have qwest dsl), nothing worked. Then I deleted the .limewire folder in:
C:\Documents and Settings\User
restarted the program, put my personal options back the way I like, and wham it worked. I have no knowledge why this this did it. I did notice note that when I first uninstalled limewire I did not remove my personal settings. Good luck.

nedfit April 11th, 2007 10:55 AM

No reinstalling or deleting necessary for me. I just removed the bad hosts I was connected to.
But I just checked back on my connections and it looks as if one of them has made their way back. The host number is 204.11.219.231. If you are connected to a similar number you will lose search results. You can tell if it is bad by browsing it. If the browse comes back with an error get rid of that host.

Atreyuu2003 April 11th, 2007 12:09 PM

Pray tell, how do you remove the bad hosts?

nedfit April 11th, 2007 12:47 PM

All you have to do is open your Connections tab. It is right between the Library tab and the Monitor tab. Then click on a host to highlight it. Then hit the browse button at the bottom. If it gives the error pop up you will need to remove that host. Just click the remove button to the left of the browse button. a new host will appear. Continue doing that until you have three good hosts and you will be fine until another bogus one sneaks in. Then you will have to repeat the procedure.

ks80 April 11th, 2007 02:01 PM

Thank You!

Thank you! I added all three of those bogus hosts to my host filter and checked the new ones that came in. Everything is working fine now. Man, what a crazy day this has been!

Troy

Don_P April 12th, 2007 08:40 AM

So my problem is....I can't find a good host they are all bogus. No matter how many times I remove the hosts I get 3 more that give me errors when I try and browse them. Virus problem maybe?

stief April 12th, 2007 08:49 AM

This has worked for others.
In the Options->Filter->Hosts, block 204.11.219.*

Renee April 16th, 2007 08:25 AM
