Most songs i download don't work im trying to download an entire album on limewire, yet none of the songs work, ive tried multiple copies, yet they all turn out to take 21 hours do download and make a ''snowy sound'' like you hear on tv's is there a way to fix it? I upgraded to beta when this happened, then i tried to downgrade to 4.12 and it still happens it it just a coincedence or do i have a problem with limewire? |
It could be a couple things. If your using the LW player try using a different one. In LW go to Tools>Options>Player, untick the box and click apply. You may need to restart LW for the changes to take affect. Now songs should play in your default player. The LW player isn't very good. It could also be a codec problem. You may want to try VLC media player, it has the codecs built in and will play most file types. More info on codecs and other players in this thread: CODECs list for Movies /Alternate players / Video help forums. Or it might be that the songs you've downloaded are fake. The network is full of them, but you can learn to avoid them and find good ones. Look up the files with Bitzi before downloading to help sort out the bad ones. Thanks! I realized my trial period for my codec is expired. |
There are plenty of free codecs available. Just google for them. I for WMP I use: http://www.xpcodecpack.com/ |

Hi girl_power, Do other files you've already d/loaded play ok? If they do, I would think you've d/loaded some bad/corrupt files. Keep trying, try at different times of the day when your likely to connect to different hosts. See: Recognising Fake files And for tips on finding good files, see: How to find music |
i'll try... i've tried throughout the whole day and ive since downloaded 3 correct sounding ones out of 26. are you sure there could be so many corrupt files on one search page? thanku |
There are a lot of fake files out there. Though it could be a codec problem. Try using VLC media player, it has the codecs built in and is very reliable. If the files will play ok in it then you know it was codecs. If not then the files are probably bad. |
ok thanks but is there any way of telling which files are not corrupt or something? |
Unfortunately not really. You could try looking up the files with Bitzi. See How to use Bitzi Web Lookup. Though music files usually don't get rated but it's a good way to check videos before d/loading. The other thing you can do is preview the file when it's about 15% complete. Then if it has a bunch of static in it you can just cancel the d/load. |
