How do I talk to other members when they upload files using the limewire chat system?

Unfortunatley the Chat function may not always work and in the last few official releases it hasn't...
But the latest Beta version has Chat up and running fine...

You also need to make sure that the other host you want to talk to has Chat enabled, (look for the little smiley face), select the chat function and a window will pop up...That's all there is to it...

Where would you see the smiley face (excactly where?) I don't think I have EVER seen it.

AHHHHHH found the column in the search window !
But the pictures are small blue icon (can't make out what it's supposed to be) with a small, greyed out "speeck bubble"
Is this supposed to be the "smiley" or what is it?
