Connecting....

I have used Limewire for several years successfully, and suddenly I am having a problem. When I try to download anything, it says connecting in the status bar, then after around 2-3 minutes, goes to "Needs more sources." This is if I download ANYTHING. No idea what went wrong so suddenly. Thank you!

wondering why May 12th, 2007 02:19 PM

Generally when you see the need more sources like that it means their fake files..
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...h-results.html

But try this and see if helps...;)

Go to your connections Tab in limewire, if it's not showing up go to Veiw > Show/Hide and make sure the connection tab has a tick next to it...
Then click on the Hosts and remove them and let Limewire search for some more...

I have checked out the whole fake file lot, but this applies to everything! Even checking things with Bitzi isn't helping. What do you mean by a "tick" next to it?

wondering why May 12th, 2007 02:25 PM

Those options should have a little tick next to them, click on them if they haven't...

pflaumen May 12th, 2007 02:27 PM

oh lol...well I have the connections menu up, I see three hosts, says some stuff..still can't download anything -.-...any other tips?

wondering why May 12th, 2007 02:30 PM

Did you remove them and let LW look for new Ultrapeers...

pflaumen May 12th, 2007 02:31 PM

Yeah I've done that several times. Everytime I get 3 new ultrapeers. Try the search and download bit again, and get the whole connecting need new sources thing.

wondering why May 12th, 2007 02:34 PM

Well they must be fake files or no hosts available...
Try downloading from 10 or less hosts and see how you go...

pflaumen May 12th, 2007 02:36 PM

I have actually tried downloading just about every file I can find, if you can believe it. I do it by threes, they don't work, move up the list, from 0 hosts to 100 hosts, none of them work. I even felt like trying to see if having 3 connections with LW Pro would help. No dice.

wondering why May 12th, 2007 02:40 PM

Hmmm, it sounds like you are connecting to Ultrapeers that are giving you only these fake results...

Disconnect LW for a while and see if you can get a new range of Ultrapeers...

Do any of the IPs look like this..
204.11.219.225
204.11.219.226
204.11.219.227
204.11.219.229
204.11.219.231

pflaumen May 12th, 2007 02:46 PM

None of the IPs look like that..ill try disconnecting for a while

pflaumen May 12th, 2007 03:04 PM

Ahh no dice! Still not working =( any more tips? lol

wondering why May 12th, 2007 03:15 PM

Strange...are you getting new Ultrapeers or are the same ones reconnecting...

pflaumen May 12th, 2007 03:16 PM

different ones everytime.

wondering why May 12th, 2007 03:21 PM

Ok last resort lol...
Try these fixes and see if they help...

System details - help us to help you Please.

Cut n paste these Questions, put your answers in bold text Thank You.

Recently there's been a problem with people not providing enough details about their setup - despite being asked again & again.
So let's make it easy for everyone...the details that we need if we're going to be able to help with complex problems are:

1. what OS version? (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista)
2. What firewalls you have ?
3. How much ram ?
4. Hard Disk space available ?
5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ?
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers ?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.) ?
8. What version,LimeWire & Java,Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.?
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ?
10. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ?
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
12. Is this your 1st try at LW, or is this a new problem with an experienced user.?
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface ?
14. Have you given full permisions for LimeWire to pass through your Firewall ?
15. XP users, Please state XP firewall on or off.?

These are all contained within the sticky Connection problems? Check here first!
but possibly some people are getting a bit confused or lost when we direct them to this sticky & ask them to provide their details.

This information can be vital
For instance, some ISPs are known for blocking p2p/throttling bandwidth,
some connection devices are known for being unreliable in certain situations.

So please, help us to help you & provide as much info as you can.
If you're new to LW or new to computers & aren't sure how to answer some questions,
or don't know what an ISP or router is - just say so. Nobody's going to yell at you:wink:
Even if you can't answer all the questions in one go...don't worry. Do the best you can & we'll take it from there.
