Unable to search at all.

Hello!

I STILL have 3.21 on my machine.. I like it.. it worked fine and I saw no reason to upgrade (I asked a question some months ago..years?).

Tonight I opened it up to look for some music. I was able to fill in the text boxes (Audio files only) but the SEARCH button is greyed out. Why is this?

Is 3.21 supported anymore? From reading a bit throughout the forum it looks like my issue may be the license issue in the more recent versions of LimeWire.

Thanks!

Hi Fuzz.
I think 3.21 is no longer supported
So if you would like here is full instructions to update.

Follow these instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)
Now!!, Put limewire in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Link to get (jre-1.5.11) Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one,
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
LimeWire

Interesting I have to delete the java- why is that?

I'll give it a shot later this week.

I am guessing that I will definitely have to pay for the newer version as well? I think I remember that from the last tiime I asked that :)

Best to remove previous java versions. Java can be really fussy & problematic. And yours sounds like a java issue. Did you try deleting the LW prefs folder? Fixes for Limewire

Almost forgot, your version will most likely have the repair option. You could always try that also. LW now uses a totally different type of installer so the add/remove control panel does not apply & in fact if you use that on the newer versions you will cause problems.

Hmm okay..

I now have Java 1.5 on here.

I cannot uninstall LimeWire 3.2.1 from Start/All Programs/Limewire. There is no option for that.

When I DID try to run LimeWire after installing Java 1.5 I got an error stating that

"Sorry, LimeWire could not locate a suitable Java RunTime Environment
Please download and install one from *(url)*"

Now what?

It also appears that there is no "Repair" function in the Add/remove programs... just Change/Remove.

I'd upgrade if I can but first I apparently have to remove this one and there is no way to other than REMOVE via the Add/remove Programs function of Windows.

AFAIK, if you install a newer version of LW, it should automatically remove the older version. ;)

A friend of mine is having problems even typing anything in the search boxes. What is happening is that the grey box with cut, paste etc comes up, but the words are greyed over. It is totally frustrating. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing it for her...but nothing. Any help would be greatly apprecited. Thanks.
