Limewire download problems

I have had Limewire for around a year now and never had any problems with it untill recently. Anything i click to download doesn't, it has a really low download speed 0-3kbs and says it will take 2 days to download. It ends up flicking off saying that there arnt enough sources. These files arnt big just your average 3,500kb music files, and it's becoming a real pain for dowloading music. Any advice would be apriciated, thanks.

As soon as I saw your first post I guess that your isp might be the issue. Find TalkTalk here ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire. I think it depends what time of day you use it. They shape p2p bandwidth over various hours of the day. So why did it happen suddenly? They don't apply this universally. They apply it to certain groups of users who they detect using up a lot of bandwidth for p2p reasons. So eventually they detected you using it for a period of time & decided to apply the breaks. :(

MentalCase June 12th, 2007 12:16 PM

Hi, thanks for the reply. I wasn't really clear enough in my post. I am currently on AOL, but that ends tonight, and will be talktalk from tomorrow, will that make a difference to my post?

Sorry for confusion, I'm new to this! :o

muhctekdano June 12th, 2007 12:23 PM

That means that you might run into new problems when you switch your ISP. Let's wait and see.

If you can download music fine, but have problems with movies, I would suspect that you're running into fake files. They are extremely common in the video and program sections of LW. Check movie files with Bitzi. If Bitzi does not have a record of the file, it's probably fake (especially if it has many sources).

Hope this helps :D

southflboi1972,

A few other people have had problems with HughesNet. Looks like they changed their FAP around mid April...is that when you started having trouble?
The Fair Access Policy (FAP)

Read through this thread also, see if anything helps.
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...irewalled.html

Try this version of Java. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install this one.
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

You could try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 64049 (or something in the range of 49152 - 65535) > Apply > ok.

You could also delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Did you always see the firewall icon? That's probably from your modem but AFAIK there's no way of setting up port forwarding for that unless you can set up a static IP (which involves changing plans) & add a router. The thread below is long but gives a lot of info;)

Did you check your Vista firewall settings to allow LW full access? User Cant Connect - LimeWire
Also check the sticky threads at top of Vista section of these forums.

Your router is an infamous one. It has firmware problems which Linksys never bothered to fix. Port forwarding is one fix, though it still may have some unreliable issues. The other is to fix the firmware yourself. There is a post on the forum about how to do that.

Well with such firewall issues, and you don't care about uploading? Well you will never be an ultrapeer, never be able to direct connect, and having less connections due to no uploads will mean less search & download results. It does make a difference.

yeattsie June 18th, 2007 07:21 AM

Thanks for the tips, I'll see if it works.
Also, I will look into uploading more - but not because of the guilt trip.
My previous computer only had a dial-up connection, so I was not able to upload at that time. I just got my new computer (with a high-speed connection) and was giving LimeWire a first try when all of these issues came about.
Thank you,
Amanda

DL problems

I absolutely can't download anything now, when I first got limewire, I always had a Turbo-Charged Connection, and I could download any type of file, now I can't get past a fair connection and it sometimes goes downt to a starting connection, and now downloading will occur, instead it will say connecting(X hosts tried) X being a number sometimes reaching in the thousands, so practically, Im wondering if theres a way to fix this or if theres a setting to correct or fix this. This has occured for about 4-6 days now. And the computer information.

1. what OS version (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista) XP professional 64-bit
