Default Help w/ Movies! (trouble playing files after download)

HI--

I am using Limewire on Windows Vista, and I have had problems downloading movies. When I download mpg. files, they run on Windows Media Player just fine. However, any other types of files, mainly avi. and mov. files will not play. They open up in WMP, but it says it cannot play that file type.

So, I downloaded the VLC Media player so that I could play the files not supported by WMP. However, now when I try to downloading these, (after setting the default for these files to VLC Media Player so that the VLC icon appears next to them in the search list), they download just fine, but nothing comes up when I try to play them. Any help?

UPDATE: Ok I just got one of the avi. files to play with VLC, but it's only playing the sound...no video.

You might try dn/ld the Vista Codec Package here for WMP. Vista Codec Package v4.4.5 (freeware)

Hmm... It still says WMP cannot play the file.

UPDATE: When I went to Explore, in the Lirbrary, clicked on the file, and Open With: WMP, it worked. So the problem SEEMS to be fixed, I will try again with other files though.

Well not good news....I had to uninstall Limewire because it just stopped working. Everytime I try to open it now, it restarts my computer. I have tried reinstalling it multiple times, to no avail. Looks like I will be looking for an alternative P2P program.
