Sir Sandslot,

Your ISP advertises speeds in kiloBITS per second. Limewire displays speeds as kiloBYTES per second. There are 8 kiloBITS per kiloBYTE.

Sooo...

768/8 = 96 kiloBYTES per second as your maximum download rate.

But...

Your download speed depends on how fast others upload to you. This includes their speed and how much bandwidth they are dedicating to uploads. It also depends on how many hosts you are downloading from.

Have you tried running a speed test to see if you can actually achieve 768 kiloBITS per second?

pt6776,

Programs available with Limewire are notorious for being

a) infected with viruses or worms
b) freeware or shareware
c) otherwise crippled and unusable

If you choose to download programs, be sure you scan every file BEFORE opening! I haven't come across that many ISO files in Limewire. I can't really say whether they are as risky as other file types; EXE, RAR, ZIP, etc. However, if all of the ISO files are small, then they are probably no different.

Instead of searching under programs, you could try a general search for '.iso'.
If you are sharing similar files, this may improve your chances, as you are better connected to the network.

Good Luck

There is nothing inherently 'risky' with .RAR and/or .ZIP files.

The very great majority of .iso files available on Gnutella are shared in the WinRAR format - i.e. .RAR files.

As muhctekdano wisely suggests... Be SURE to scan all of these files prior to opening them...
Further, with an .iso file compressed with WinRAR, you do NOT 'open' them...
(Well, you can, but there is not much you'll be able to do with them except perhaps check content and maybe 'keys'.)
The easiest way to deal with them is to use NERO using the function, "Burn Image File".

Don't be surprised if you increase your coaster collection !
