Need connection help please! (files won't connect to download)

I'll try to make a long story short here.......

I've had LimeWire on my old computer for a long time, and on my new computer for about a month now. It always worked fine on both, until now. First it stopped connecting on the new computer, then the old one too (both are on a home network).

The little firewall icon is saying I'm behind a firewall, but I shouldn't be, because all my firewalls are disabled, and I have NO security programs running.

I have tried everything. I have checked the Windows firewall to make sure it's disabled. I have switched to manual port, and configured it on my router so the correct port number is open (I know NOTHING about that part, but my friend is a professional IT person and walked me through it). I have uninstalled and reinstalled LimeWire.

For the connection bars, usually all of them are green, but the little number in the green dot is always zero now (does that mean anything??) and even though I get lots of search results, when I try to download anything, it just says "connecting....." for a LONG time, then turns to "Need more sources".

Here is my info:

1. OS version? Windows XP Professional
2. What firewalls you have? NONE!
3. How much ram? 1.00 GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 54.7 GB
5. Connection type? Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
Modem: Comcast Motorola SBV5220
Router: D-Link, Dl -704
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? House
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
LimeWire: 4.12.14
Java: 1.5.0_04
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Comcast
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Says "Your test worked!".
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No......two computers share the internet connection, but they share a monitor, so are never used at the same time.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
New problem. LimeWire always worked fine before. No settings on anything have been changed since it was working, no new programs installed, etc.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Should be UPnP (that's what I was told by my IT guy), but not totally sure.
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall :) NONE!
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). USA

The number in the green circle shows how many files you're sharing;)

Rather than turning off your software firewall, it's better to configure it to allow LW.
User Cant Connect - LimeWire

Normally, when files sit connecting for ages & then get stuck needing sources forever it means you're seeing fake files. Check out these 2 threads for more info & tips.

How to find music

But...if you're seeing this with every single file that you try to download (do a test, look for an old song & try to download a file that has 10 sources or less) try this: Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will kill all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

You could also update your Java to this version. Use the JRE offline installer & remove your current Java version before you install this one.

You could also try port forwarding for your router, using the instructions here.
Port Forwarding for the Dlink DI-704
Don't forget the step of setting up a static IP address first. LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router all have to be the same number;)

THANK YOU!!! :aweof:

The static IP address thing did the trick! :xeri_ok1ani:
